That significant of a framerate drop? Really? If anything I noticed that in many games I had a slight increase in framerate of about 5-10fps switching from 2k3 (server version of XP, basically cleaner, better performance) to Vista, notably most ID engine games like the Quake series, Doom, Half-Life series and related etc.

I love backtrack 3, it's so useful for so many things other than just breaking onto wireless networks (WEP should be changed to FIH (FREE INTERNET HERE) though), I have a modified copy that includes some extra tools that I feel they shouldn't have left out, though I won't tell say what they are.

As for putting another computer in your truck (as if they don't have enough of them nowadays) and hooking it up to your engine, if you know what you are doing you could hook up your ECU to it or bypass it entirely and hook everything up to the computer instead and with some programming knowledge increasing engine performance would be fairly easy.

Without any hardware changes, the framerates dropped by 10
And i was on the same exact settings both times..

E-machines? There's your problem right there, you should never trust a pre-built system.

That's the only thing pre-built on it anymore.
I replaced the HDD, PSU, case, all my drives and cables. etc.

you can change all that, but if you're running on a cheap chip set, well, it's like the controversial "cold air intake on a 22re" looks nice, and in theory it should really help things out, but...

not trying to wrap on you or your computer man, lol, don't take that offensively

Well, it wasn't particularly cheap when it came out..
Sapphire Radeon HD2600XT 512MB DDR3...

She's outdated by about 1.5 years now. Still plays most of the games i have anyways.

Two things.

1.) I've moved up now to Windows Ultimate. It is finally a good stable union between the flair of Vista and the workhorse attitude of XP. I really like it.

2.) When it was my alternators turn, I opted at buying a rebuild kit over the phone with a shop I can't currently remember their name but would be able to look it up. I bought a higher output stator kit and rebuilt it myself. Now I fully know how to work on alternators and I have a original bodied Denso that puts out a sharp 90 amps. Whole kit with everything included ran me right at $150 and labor took one good afternoon with the bubbler. It works great.

this is good info. I've always just felt at the mercy of aftermarket distributors, and the idea of a remanned alternator never really sat well with me. they've always just seemed about as weak as Windows Millenium, which lasted less than 2 weeks on my computer, btw.

I think I might try to rebuild mine the next time. I like the idea of higher output. and it doesn't bother anything?

I don't know about you, but I hate computers. I walk into a school computer lab and get physically sick. Then again, I hate computers because 99% of people who use them don't deserve to use them and their ineptitude has ruined a lot of things for me. Too many people asking me to do what I'd consider a 10-minute DIY thing, like installing simple software, editing configuration settings, cleaning the registry (I do this by hand), running defrag, etc. Kinda like people who drive, I think we can all agree there are lots of people on the road who definitely should not have passed their road test.

Anyways, here's a pic of my alternator, freshly rebuilt and back from the shop. They had to replace the front housing casting because it was cracked (oh my), the rotor, bearings, and brushes were also replaced, as well as all nuts and bolts. It has a one-year warranty now, which is probably the first time it's had a warranty since the late 80s. The rotor rotates nice and smooth, no metal scraping on metal, no wobble, and of course the best thing? It's clean!

The higher output has been a godsend. We will be running a dual battery setup with an Odyssey as our aux and the high 90 will keep both of my guys well filled. Coupled with a small amount of solar help and we're gravy.

The rebuild was simple enough, just takes patience. It's precision work, not strength.
The only major issue I had once I put it all back together is I blew my main fusible in the engine fuses since I had increased my max amp capacity by 30. The original was an 80A, so I had then stepped up to a 120A fusible and everything is great.

If you could look up where you got the upgrade kit that would be great for future reference if I ever need to do it. I plan on putting on a couple of fogs, spots and a hydraulic pump eventually. I'm hoping hoping that I can just get away with replacing my battery with a yellowtop optima down the line when my battery finally gives up the ghost to handle the extras, but if I can't get away with it an output upgrade to my alt is not out of the question.

well since we're back on topic

lol, when I did my rebuild, I purchased one on-line from a business that primarily sells on eBay. A budy of mine put one of their alternators in his Mustang, and it worked out great for him, and still is!

I got a 130amp alt for my 22re, and at idle with the AC on, head lights, 6" aux lights, and the 1000 watt stereo blaring, she puts out 14.3 volts

And the reason behind the upgrade is because a bump with winch and more lights is in the near future
