1992 No 4wd light...ADD
As you can see in my avatar, I scored a spotless 1992 3zve pickup with only 32k original miles, the paint on the undercarriage was spotless. Was a classic story of old man put in garage and never drove. Just recently i stopped getting the 4wd light and I dont think the ADD is actually engaging the hubs . I have done alot of reading and will start looking at vacuum lines today, any other thoughts ?
Im not up for defeating the ADD any time soon, although it may come to that.

Welp after further thought and research I ran to the auto parts store and tackled the ADD defeat, following these superb instructions.

Was almost too easy, just waiting for the gasket sealant to dry and fill up the differential in the morning, then I can remove all the vacuum crap. ... Then I shall celebrate

If you can believe it, it worked like a champ and was way too easy. I come to expect a disaster when trying my hand a mechanical work. Filled up the front diff this morning, started the truck and BAM 4wd and indicator light working like a champ
Gonna remove the rest of the vacuum system some other weekend, and will start lookin for a cheap used set of rims to accommodate a future set of manual locking hubs.......just happy to have my 4wd back for the time being, that's my hunting rig !

You're turning the entire diff & front driveshaft now, so mileage will go into the toilet until you get manual hubs....might want to do that sooner rather than later.

I'd have to second that. Get some manual hubs. You'll be better off in the long run. Saves on drivetrain wear, too.
Personally, I've never had any real prob's with the ADD system. My 1st 4rnr has the manual system, but my wife's 2nd gen has ADD. The only problems I've had with are when I crunched the front diff plate in a wreck and some vac lines were damaged. But, the shifter switch, the two vac solenoids, and the diff actuator still work great. Having one that's manual and one that's ADD is pretty nice. If I only one to choose from, though, it'd be all manual. I'm sure my wife would have it the other way....lol! ADD is really convenient in the wet, wintry months. But, then I just leave the hubs locked on the manual system during those times. It really sucks if/when they freeze and you need to lock them. You can't....lol!
