1992 4runner rear door windows and tailgate window won't work
Hi,
I just bought a 1992 4runner, the rear door windows and tailgate window won't roll down are they on some kind of common circuit or am I just lucky enough to have all 3 with bad motors ?, previous owner swears they used to work. How do you manualy get the tailgate window down without the motor. I want to open the tailgate and eventually remove the glass.

My 92 has a window lock button on the center concole for the rear tailgate window and a window lock button on the drivers side arm rest to lock the passenger windows. The door windows are on a different circuit than the tailgate window.

youll have to apply power directly to the motor. unplug, apply power from a battery and voila, window goes down. if it doesnt work the first time, switch the wires. all this hinges on the fact that you have to remove both panels on the tailgate. from inside. while you are in the back. with the battery. and tools. and cramped legs. you be sweating. and swearing. profusely.

is the clicking coming from the dash, under the hood, or the tailgate? if its the tailgate, pop the paneling off and try to get a look at the window mechanism. Its probable that it has slipped off its track. If it doesn't work when you use the key hole in the tailgate, or does the same thing, its probably the mechanism. Hopefully you can fix it yourself, but its not a bank breaker to replace. At least it gets some juice.

the clicking comes from the tailgate itself. One click each time you hit the switch. the window is up now and i would like to get it down so that I can take the tailgate off and take it apart.

95 Runner Tailgate window
I'm having the same issue on my 95 runner, the rear tailgate window is up and wont roll down, all other windows work fine. I can hear the relay in the drivers side rear clicking with both switches, and I believe I have power to the motor. Its always worked fine, just a little lazy going up the last couple inches. The tailgate is rusted out quite a bit at the bottom and before I noticed this issue I had been doing some work on the truck but not near the tailgate. Fuel line fix (had to drop the tank) and brake lines. Maybe I knocked a ground wire loose somewhere unknowingly while hammering and banging around? Are there any grounds on the inside body of the tailgate?
To make the motor roll either up or down, would I just have to switch the ground and hot wires to the motor and change the polarity? Or is the green one always ground and red hot? I have power with the rear key switch on each lead depending whether the key is turned to roll up or down, have double checked that the window lock is off and the rear wiper is fully off.
When I put power to the red and ground the green or vice versa I get no reaction from the motor at all. Are there any more safety switches or fuses? I don't see any bad fuses. My daytime running lights quit stopped working awhile back. The door is fully closed, and no reaction by trying to roll down and tapping the motor with a hammer.
This used to be a daily driver but now it's just a weekend camping trail rig. Haven't drove it much and its been in my shop for about a year. Sorry bout all the ranting any help is appreciated. I need to get the window down and tailgate open to do a little metal/bodywork
