Good Morning Yotatechies

The Alternator on my 1984 Toyota Pickup crapped out on me, I assume because the power steering pump was leaking all over it. Well I rebuilt the power steering pump and purchased a remanufactured alternator that is supposed to fit this year, but the new alternator won't line up with the upper and lower brackets.

The previous owner had installed a 1-wire alternator (The one that quit on me)...
While removing the previously installed alternator, I noticed the lower pivot bracket certainly does NOT look right for any alternator, especially not the new one I just got.
I'm fairly certain the new alternator is the correct one for this year....


From what I can tell, this lower alternator pivot bracket should look more like this . . .

The upper alternator bracket appears to be original..

What do y'all think is going on here/what do you think the best course of action is?



So I'm wondering if the previous owner just cut the original bracket in two?
I would love to just buy this bracket, and replace it but I would have to take off 2/4 of the engine mount bolts to do so which seems too sketchy especially because I don't have an engine hoist and from what I can tell even the slight shift in support could make it impossible to get the two bolts [red in picture] back in to palce, even if I did manage somehow to squeeze the new pivot bracket in there.

What do ya'll think is the best move to get me back on the road?

Even just posting a pic of what your lower alternator bracket looks like would be a huge help!

Looks chopped so if you want to go back original, you'll have to get a bracket.

Are you sure that new one is correct? What year is your truck?

You can use a jack under the oil pan or lower crank pulley. Cushion it with a block of wood or something.
