solid axle help
i bought a solid axle with auto locking hubs. i want to convert it to manual locking hubs. here are my questions.
1. when measuring the axle to correctly ID what year and what size of axle i have. Where exactly do i measure from? from what point to what point.
2. what years did the Auto Locking Hubs come on? I tried to to fit a manual locking hub from a '86 IFS and they did not fit. the solid axle was larger than the manual hub.

Measure from WMS (wheel mounting surface) to WMS.
The IFS hub has a 27 spline gear. The birfield axle (if it's a Toyota) is 30 spline.
How about posting some pics of the axle and we'll help you ID it.
