I've been having a problem of my truck stalling out after driving it for awhile. It will happen some times before it has warmed up in the morning but the most frustrating time is when I've been driving for an hour or more and then come to a stop and it just decides to try and stall. The idle has been set a little bit higher, about 1000-1100 rpms. I'm thinking it has something to do with a temp sensor, or maybe a vacumm leak or some other sensor. I've done a basic tuneup but not sure where to go from here.
Any ideas are welcome!

have you checked the idle bypass air screw do-hicky? Mine was stalling whenever it would stop... sounds a little like what you have going on, and that was the problem.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll look around and see if I can find any suggestions that I haven't tried yet and I'll check out the idle air by-pass screw but I think that's what I've been messing with to get the idle up higher so that it stalls less often than it used to but I don't want it idling any faster than it does right now, it's only supposed to be around 850 I think. I've put in new plugs, cap and rotor, wires, air filter. I've had the throttle sensor adjusted so I'm thinking it may be the air sensor thing that sits above the air filter box.

Mine dies if I let off the gas and step on the clutch from a relatively high RPM and turn the wheel a little. I am pretty sure it is due to the combination of a broken dashpot - letting the throttle plate slam shut, combined with my power steering idle up valve being replaced with a plug.

Little bit of a long shot, but if you have looked at the normal things for idle problems this could be an idea.

Thanks, that does sound similar to my problem, I've got it in the shop right now having the valves adjusted and a exhaust leak fixed. Hopefully with the valves adjusted and no exhaust leak it will stop stalling on me.
We'll see, I don't have a lot of faith in this new mechanic but maybe he's on the right track. Been having a what I thought was a clutch problem too but it may just be a lack of power since the engine is running so badly. After 400,000 miles I probably need a whole new top end, sensors and all!
