New parts happening!
Well, I ordered a few things from the Wabbit. Got stainless brake lines, 1.5" spacers for the front, and six shooter knuckles and arms. My caliper bolt had stripped out and the threads are gone. A replacement knuckle was $170-270 from online sources. The six shooter kit was only $320 for 2 new knuckles and arms. I have already done the bearings and seals a couple months ago so they will be re-used of course. Hy-steer was already done by Wabbit, so hopefully this will go smooth. I went ahead and got new loaded IFS calipers and new FJ60 rotors to throw in also. I picked up caliper cores at the pull-a-part so I may try to figure a way to put my solid front rotors and small calipers on the rear. Speaking of the rear, picked an '89 V6 rear diff today also. Its in great shape, so that will be going in soon. I also bought a '98 Tacoma 5spd 3RZ, complete with ECU, and flywheel and bellhousing, clutch fork, etc from a wrecking yard today. I have to pick them up and while I am there, he is going to let me have anything I need to do the swap, harnesses and such, for the nice sum of $1,000. I will be pulling my own harness but the motor and trans are out already.

Got all my Wabbit parts, and picked up a different '98 3RZ complete. But this price went up to $1500.00... Oh well, I got it now.
Stripped it down for the machine shop next week.
Anyone have any thoughts on rebuild parts? Brands? I see LC Engineering has a rebuild kit for $600. Are there any others better?

This amazing engine will get all new timing components, along with some pistons(.010 over?) and new bushings and bearings. I have it disassembled so I may as well get it as close to new as a 130K mile engine can get. I will pursue the Toyota OEM kits and see whats offered. Hopefully the knuckles, brakes, spacers, and rear diff will get installed while the 3RZ is getting a bath and surgery...

Well, I took my 3RZ to the machine shop yesterday. Along with the intake manifolds(upper and lower) for hot-tanking, and the flywheel for resurfacing. They disassembled the engine while I was there and allowed me to watch. Upon inspection we found the cross-hatch hone on the cylinder walls, from the factory, was still very clear. This engine had 135K miles on it... There was no ridge at the top at all. There was a little bit of flash rust in a couple of spots, but that is due to the engine being uncovered while in the wrecking yard...
I could have just honed it all and slapped new rings and bearings in and been good to go. But instead I opted to get a master rebuild kit from LCE Performance, along with some Viton valve seals. Its getting a "head job" so I figured $20 for seals was cheap insurance. We decided to go 0.020 over on the bore and pistons, and standard on rods and mains.
Hopefully will have the engine back early next week, which is hopefully the same time the Chilkat engine mounts arrive. And if I am lucky, Witchhunter will be done with my injectors next week.
And I put on all new brakes and hardware on the V6 rear diff, so maybe I can throw that in tomorrow...

Thanks! The machine shop got the parts this morning from LCE, and they called this afternoon to let me know it was done. So I will try and get over there by Wed to pick up the engine, the Walbro fuel pump, and remaining gaskets, intake(upper and lower) and flywheel. I got crap weather moving in tonight so I gotta wait til it dries up since the engine rides in the bed.

22R is out, engine bay cleaned up a bit, and 3RZ wiring harness is disassembled. Put the harness back together, and I am fixing to finish the engine compartment fuse block. All unnecessary circuits have been removed. I am leaving the stock '84 lighting, accessories, etc in place, and just feeding what the engine needs from that. The heavy circuits(continuous powers to various things) will be controlled via extra relays in the additional fuse block in engine bay. I will have my starter feed from the '84 trigger the start relay of the new fuse block and starter. I am leaving the leads for the circuits I remove, then I can add accessories later. They are just coiled up, insulated, and put under the fuse block bottom cover. I will be doing fuel lines hopefully tomorrow, along with mounting the Walbro pump and pre-filter. The clutch line got re-routed(very easy) and I installed the new clutch master from Wabbit. Also from Wabbit are silicone radiator hoses and TG battery box. I also found a V6 manual 4runner at the local Pullapart, so I snagged the radiator and had it cleaned and checked at the radiator shop.
Now to start assembling and installing into the truck. Maybe if I am lucky, t will be done this coming week...

3rz is in and bolted down. Along with the MC HD clutch. Got the V6 radiator in, hoses hooked up, and exhaust down pipe installed. Had to remove the A/C evap and I will have to customize the top in order to mount the ECU. But the wiring is in the firewall anyway. I have to mount my TG battery box, and run my fuel return hose, and evap hose. Hopefully I can get several odds and ends finished today and maybe finish wiring tonight or tomorrow. I am hoping to fire this thing by the weekend.
For any of you considering this swap, physically, it bolts in with the W59 bell housing and Chilkat mounts. And so far, the wiring is cake. It's actually an almost complete standalone system.

Well I said cake.... I have almost gotten everything in the engine compartment completed. I wanted to finish it all up because it's the most time consuming portion. So without the ECU connected, I attempted to start it through my existing ignition switch. Just using the '84 start signal to trigger the '98 start relay. I got nothing. I have narrowed it down to the relay itself or somewhere near that. I can bypass the relay and just give 12V to the solenoid and it cranks great. Maybe Saturday I will be able to spend some time with it and figure it out...

It started today. Runs real well. I still have to finish my interior wiring clean up and get exhaust done. And finish my right side six-shooter knuckle, big brake upgrade. Hopefully all that will be done tomorrow.... Except for the exhaust... That's next week maybe. Ordered a Flowmaster 60 series so hopefully it won't be ricey or sound "bumble-bee-ish"...

Took her for her first run today. 1st to the exhaust shop to install new cat and muffler and everything. Then rode it around town, down the interstate, out in the country, wherever. After the first few miles, I came to a stop sign, and thought the truck had died. It had just idled down to normal. Very smooth and very quiet. Since then it has been perfect. Tomorrow I will put on another 20 miles or so, then change the oil with full synthetic Mobil. Then a clutch adjust, clean out the interior, then Sunday it may get its maiden voyage and drive to Miami. Time for the ole girl to get back to work...
I couldn't be happier with the power and performance. Night and day difference from the 22R. We will see what mileage is in the near future.
And I opted against the FM muffler and had them install a 2-1/4" turbo muffler. I'm to old for any noise anyway. I like my music to much to be listening to louda$$ exhaust all day, everyday...
