Intake manifold bolts go into oil gallery?

Intake manifold bolts go into oil gallery?

Anybody know if any of the intake manifold bolts go into a oil gallery? Have a small oil drip that looks like it may be dripping from one of the bolts that holds the intake manifold onto the block. Can't see a whole lot, one of those mirror, flashlight, contorted like a pretzel things to try and see.

I am betting a heat-hardened, dried up, non-sealing valve cover gasket/grommets seeping down the side a bit, and the oil is just accumulating on that manifold flange/bolt area.

Grab a valve cover gasket SET, which comes with new grommets, valve cover gasket, and the half moon shaped plugs. Put a small dab of ultra black silicone on the corners of the plugs, install everything and clean the area well, and see if leak persist.

You mean "oil galley?"
And not to my knowledge are there any intake bolts or intake studs that are a pathway to any oil.

Nope, put on a new head/head gasket 3000 miles ago, not leaking and head is clean as a whistle. Cleaned off where the oil was and watched it while engine was running, nothing coming from the head gasket, but oil was again accumulating at the bolt that holds the intake to the head. Gonna mess with it some more today, have a waterpump to replace.

I mentioned the VALVE COVER gasket. The oil COULD seep out of the VALVE COVER gasket, and accumulate exactly where you are saying. I have even seen it seep out of the area that the half moon plugs lay under the VALVE COVER gasket, and the oil can ease along the seam and eventually get "heavy" enough(oil gathers) and ease down the side of the head and drip off the intake mounting flange... Might be worth a look.

Unless you are considering a head gasket the same thing as a VALVE COVER gasket. Where I live, they're different. You know us Southerners, always a bit odd...

When I did my motor, I don't remember any bolts or studs going into a oil galley. However there was some guy on here proclaiming there is, but he never provided any proof. I would say no or the FSM would mention putting some sort of sealant, which it dosen't.

Well you know, us Northwesterners typically change our VALVE COVER gasket when we put in a new HEAD GASKET. Kind of hard to get those head bolts out with with the VALVE COVER still on. It is definately NOT coming from the VALVE COVER, or HEAD GASKET. Going to pull the Intake Manifold off this coming weekend and see what's up.

I would pull the intake and make sure you or someone else didn't run too long a bolt through one of the intake bolt holes. Or crack the bolt hole somehow allowing oil to weep into the threaded hole.
I saw a head come in the shop once on a blown motor that someone had used too long of a 6m 1.00 bolt. He or she torqued it down so hard they drove it through the side of the head! Crazy I know but I saw it. I actually have a pic of that somewhere. If I can find it I'll post it up.

Pulled the intake today, and no, no bolts go into a oil galley. Did find that my gasket was split right where I was getting the drip, but still dosn't explain where the oil is coming from. I am burning some oil, only been 3000 miles since I re-ringed with some cast iron rings due to a blowby issue with the Rock Auto rings I had used when I did my rebuild. (shrug). Anyways, here's a pic of where the split was and where the drip kept showing up at.



I also fab'd up a block off plate for the back of the head since I had removed all the emissions crap when I put on my Weber, just been running around with whatever that thing was that had bunches of hoses hooked up to it, minus all the hoses.

You might be surprised how many folks A: get the two parts confused, B: Dont replace the valve cover gasket when replacing the head gasket...

I wasn't being smart, just sometimes you have to state the obvious... Or it gets missed...
