85 22r offenhauser/weber acceleration problem

O.K. Exhibit 1...

Clappy, my 1985 2wd 22r pickup.
Most recent mod-
Offenhauser single plane intake manifold.
Weber 32/36 carburator.
LC Engineering billet K&N air cleaner.
LC Engineering blocking plates.
All emissions removed except high flow cat.
Stock exhaust manifold.
NAPA cobbled together exhaust system with previously mentioned cat.

Mechanical history-
Bought truck about summer 2003.
Had engine pulled and rebuilt summer 2005.
At rebuild, had 4 speed tranny swapped for a 5 speed.
Last year, the factory carb started giving me trouble, so I yanked it out and put on the Weber with the horrible Weber adapter plates on the factory manifold. Vacuum leak around adapter plates. Dieseling on shut-off. Giving more than half throttle caused loud exhaust note and convulsions/weak to no acceleration. Screw it. Called LCE and ordered the Offy single plane (best for my application of highway daily driver), air cleaner (to replace the piece of garbage Weber air cleaner), and blocking kits (to get rid of emissions equipment that didn't even work any longer). So... Installed parts, verified distributor specification for ohms and air gap. Verified vacuum advance. Set timing to 5 degrees advance (suggested by LCE support for current configuration). Set choke fast idle to about 1800 RPM. Set running idle to about 800 RPM. Set mixture screw in til it started to bog, then backed out a half turn. Seafoamed engine the other day. Still has crappy throttle response over halfway. Any gear, mash down on the pedal, and the exhaust gets loud, and no greater acceleration than mid throttle. WTF?

I know the choke is let off, and the vacuum advance has released.

I have run the mixture more rich, doesn't help.

Is it related to the factory exhaust manifold and cheesy exhaust system?

HEP ME! HEP ME!

not 100% sure, but IMO the exhaust really makes the engine on an 20r/22r(e). Just like my old 77 vs my 82. The 77 had stock muffler, the 82 has a cherrybomb glasspack. The 82 has a lot more power.

So, I would begin with exhaust.

your upper water hose is backwards..the curved part goes around the fuel pump not where it is on the other end..

I see something that could cause loss of vacuum. you have no differential vacuum for the pcv system. I am sure you have the pcv hooked to intake correct? when manifold looses vacuum to some degree when accelerating, the air cleaner side can't pull vaccuum the other way to reassure the pcv valve is closing because you have it blocked off and a filter in it's place. It seems to me that you would lose vacuum at the manifold at this point reducing the flow through carb. Maybe I am wrong here, but it seems like the spring pressure on a pcv is designed for both of these to be hooked up in order for it to close.
