5.71 are supposed to be a little weak because of how small the pinion is so if you are doing any off roading you may wanna just go with 5.29's As far as the install I'm not sure though you can buy complete thirds set up with new gears from trail-gear, marlin crawler, or allpro. If your not pretty comfortable with mechanics and tools and such I wouldn't suggest doing them yourself.
Just my .02

Check out marlin, or allpro.
OR Randys ring and pinion Those will be the price for the gears. Call your local shops to verify for the install prices, because it varies

you said 85 4runner? the ring and pinion you showed was for an IFS front, isn't yours strait axle? if it is strait it will be an 8" ring gear.
I have done gears but only with my dad who has been doing them for twenty years. i would not recomend a gear install yourself unless you have some one to show you/ coach you through it. it is a good skill to learn though!

i assume it only has the factory t-case. i run 4.88s in mine but i have two cases. i think you'd be fine with 5.29s and the 3.0.

There is nothing wrong with 5.71 gears. I run them on my 88 4runner (85 front axle). The key is making sure they are setup correctly. Most people I know uses ZUK (gearinstalls.com) cause he's the Toyota diff guy. You can get the cryo'd 5.71 gears from him also. If you are looking for this to be done ASAP, then ZUK won't be your guy. He closes up shop in the summer (too hot). Probably won't be open again until October. Just make sure whomever you use, really knows what they are doing if you go with 5.71's.

Good posting^
The bigger the R&P the more important a good install is.
