HElp ME 4Runner owners...please...urgent...

Hi, I know there is alot more activity in this part of the forums & it pertains to you guys so:

I have the chance to buy a 2nd GEN. 4Runner shell for cheap: $100 or less...its black...and the guy says it has the mount/motor for rear wiper...all glass is there and its solid.

MY QUESTIONS: Will it fit my 85' domestic bed?
What could i fabricate to close in the open back end of the shell?
What would you pay for something like this?

oh BTW...I only need it to tote my dog around so it dosn't need to be perfect but i would like to be able to somehow secure the back end...

THANKS

A 4Runner shell on your 85 what? 84-89 shells are pretty much interchangeable...on a pickup...no.

I have never measured, but I have seen people using 4runner shells on other year Toyota trucks( I think ). Its been awhile. The two I remember, one being a Tacoma ex cab, had wood wedges running along the bottom to make the shell fit. BTW, people will give those shells away, so I would go that route if you are looking for one. Use craigshelper.com and search your area.

ooo...thanks, Just to clear things up...I have an 85' xcab.
wow, people just give em away...maybe i should hold off then $100 seems like a bit much if people just give em away.

whats the value of one of these shells then? $70, $50, $25 or for the majority are they free?

Let me se if i can help, first of all if the top is off a 4Runner its a 1st GEN, as far as i know all 2nd GENS don`t have removable tops. As far as it fitting your truck, no it won`t fit. you would be better finding a cheap shell somewere.

Ya is it a removable roof that your talking about? If so it's from a 1st gen (84-89), not that it really matters but just to inform you.
And no.
Unless you plan on duct taping it to your truck it won't fit.
If you don't need it RIGHT now then keep your eyes open and you can find a cheap topper for your truck.
Try web sites like Kijiji.com or buysell.com.
Good luck!

the 4runner shell will be longer than a short bed and shorter than the long bed.

they do that to put a post on the thread that 'bumps' it to the top of the list so that people will see it more easily.

Thats bizarre? I always read a 4runner was just a shortbed, reg cab truck w/ a factory, fiberglass shell on it.
Why would the beds be different? How did Yoda accomplish this feat?

the truck has a gap between the bed and cab and a rear window in the cab
the 4runner doesn't. so the shell on the runner has to be a bit longer to make up the difference.
