22R no spark

22R no spark
I was working on my wife's car replacing front end suspension parts, and made a quick trip to the hardware store in my 84 pickup, 22R engine. In the parking lot, it just died, so I coasted in to a parking spot. Truck would not restart. Walked home, finished wife's car, towed the truck back home. This is my daily driver, so not sure how long I can use the wife's car.
The 22R has no spark. I tried putting a screw driver in one of the plug wires to see if it sparks to ground, nothing. Tried same thing straight out of the coil, no spark.
Getting voltage from the igniter on the 2 wires to the coil, so I replaced the coil. Still no spark. I replaced the ignition pickup in the distributor, still no spark.
Any other suggestions? Is there a way to test the igniter module without having to spend $270 on a new one? It has power going to it, and power coming from it to the coil.

Mine tried that in early august. Was told by toy mechanic that 22r igniters seldom die and it needed a distributor. One new distributor later, it fired right up to run another day.

So I got a hold of the local "Toyota Guy" that I bought parts from before. He said ignition module, and had one for me to buy. Put it in my truck and ROARED back to life running better than before. So they may seldom die, but they do sometimes, and mine did.
Can't believe the price difference at the different parts stores, any where from $275 to $506 for new.

Good to hear. When mine died, I feared it was the igniter due to cost so was relieved to find out it was just the distrib. Guess my igniter might just be waiting for -30 temps to arrive later this winter on some morning I'm already running late to be somewhere. Prob should start hunting for a spare.

If it happens again, I'm going to do the GM ignition mod. $60 for both a GM coil and ignition module that are available everywhere all the time sounds much better than Toyota cost and scarce availability.
