I had a vent like that on mine and got water in the engine and had to do a head gasket so I put a tube from there to my air cleaner in my weber

You know it gets vacuum? I'm pretty sure it's just a vent. Gases come out of the valve cover through it, and rather than just releasing them back into the atmosphere, they get circulated back into the engine. I don't think it has anything to do with vacuum. I'm pretty sure most people with a weber carb have a setup exactly like yours.

I saw about as many examples of people with it routed back into the intake as I did like the above links...

I just installed a Weber 32/36 on my 83 4x4 and it goes connected to the underside of the airfilter. I bought a line at OReilly last night for like $4 to connect from the valve cover to the air filter. You should be ok the way it is...my brother didnt have anything on it at all and he didnt have any problems. Stock goes connected to the air intake.

Well if it's under vacuum from the carb, as long as there's no gaping hole on the carb side, there's no vacuum leak. Right?

I know you're thinking it's a problem, but it's really not. If there's a place on your carb then go ahead and buy some hose and connect the two, otherwise don't worry about it.

I did some search on "valve cover breather" or something like that, if you do the same you'll get some answers. Sometimes it vents, and I think sometimes it sucks air in. As long as it is allowed to vent, and when it sucks air in, it's not sucking in dirt, water, etc. (thus the filter), it's fine.

if you can pull a vac. from that port on the air filter you need to change your filter.
