Its a good time to put in a 5 speed. My 80 has a five speed out of an 88 four runner. if you use the tranny-tcase and rear drive shaft off a runner. it will all fit good.

dont those tranny's and T-case's require a different crossmember...if not...then i might try to find a 5spd....because i already have an extra 4-spd...but idk if it works good or not...never had it on..but thanks for that...next time i find a scrap yard i will be on the lookout for a 1st gen runner..

Ken,
84 and up tranny/t-case/x-member assemblys are longer than the 79-83s not a direct bolt in

and if you were gunna swap in a later 5spd, pretty much any 84-95 4runner or pickup 5spd from a 4cyl would work...not all trannys will bolt up there are some differences

Finally!

ok..so i finally got the parts i need (and i few i dont) for $100 even...thanks to Redvette....so im bout to be on my way to putting the new T-case, tranny, and front d-shaft in within the next couple days..went to the salvage yard today...looked at some bucket seats...found some honda accord seats in decent shape for $25 a piece...but i think before i get them..im gonna try and find some good looking acura integra seats first....they look and feel NICE!...i also got a 22R carb...(included in the parts i didnt need)...would it work on my 20R...or does it supply more fuel...i'll have pics of the parts...and my a couple more destroyed parts of my truck up later tonight...so stay tuned for round 2

Hehe.. one hell of a hard way to learn not to be so lazy w/ the hubs =P

Atleast it didn't catapult the front, or rear of your truck and throw you into a rollover. I think you're pretty damn lucky the T-case took the force and broke.

Heh, they did a deal on Myth Busters about a car getting catapulted by the driveshaft disconnecting (rear DS) at the tranny and getting caught in a pot hole.. It just tore the rearend off instead of lifting the car but a better rear-end might not come apart as easily (or the T-case breaking and exhausting the energy).

Not a practical choice on a front driveshaft but could be customized for the rear application on our toyotas is a driveline loop.

A very simple safety device.
