Ok I got my fsm in the mail today, and While just flipping through it to see what all it had in it I had to stop and ask myself??? " why the hell didn't I get one of these a long time ago!! I have sen many fsm's before I worked for oldsmobile, Cadillac, and Honda dealerships and I have o say that this is by far the most easily navigated and also so detailed of any I have seen!!! Very impressed and wanted to share with everyone it you don't have one GET ONE!! If you plan to keep your yota which who doesn't then you need this it's amazing!!! Thanks Toyota and thanks yotatech for hoping me get my hands on this golden ticket to yota repair!!!

the one on the NCttora site is actually for an '85 even though it is touted as 79-85.

much of the info is transferable with regard to brakes, axles etc but changes are made year to year

This is the big issue for me. 85 and up those online FSM's are fine (though yeah, it's better to have the hard copy in hand), but there is NO online FSM for pre-85 trucks.

So how much more thorough are the FSM's versus a Chilton or Haynes manual?

Ridiculously. More. Thorough.

Not even comparable.

I'm pretty sure you can still order them directly from Toyota directly. If I remember right they quoted me $75 or so, (800) 622-2033.

I was about to order one when my truck's original owner found his and gave it to me about a year after I bought the truck from him.

Definately. Watch out tho, the older ones have 1 volume (my 89 4runner manual covers everything) but my 98 taco one does not have electrical schematics in it. Same as my 90' alltrac FSM.

But yes, the manuals are fantastic (well the truck ones are better than the car one for some reason)
