alternator has fear of water
its no surprise the alt doesn't like water, but just hitting a small puddle caused the dash light to come on for a few minutes. after it dried out it was fine the rest of the night. but today the light was on for 1/3 of my 30 minute drive to work with no water in sight. surely its dried out by now? do i have signs of a failing alt or is just a little water to blame? i'm going wheeling tomorow and don't want to be the guy that needs a jump start every time....

99% of electrical problems are bad ground. BUT...if that not the problem, use a voltmeter, check voltage at the battery terminals. When running, should read 14volts or so. Anything less, check battery, but likely need to replace the alt at that point. I run a chevy alt beneath the intake (p-side). Cheap to buy and replace when damaged from dunking.

GM alternator swap bracket
Might be a time for an upgrade. I bought one of these:

outstanding work on the bracket, I just need to get my GM alternator and time to work on the truck...
