i didnt think they made them back then either but thats what the ad says....maybe hes counting reverse to? or maybe the 5spd was in the truck when he got it.....but im just wondering if its worth the few extra bucks to get the extra gear.

With the model of the 5spd aside, swapping out your 4spd will make a world of difference. The L43s were carry over trannies from the 2wd's/cars, with an alum. adapter to the t-case. 1st gear is 3.67, compared to most others with a 3.93 first.

79-83 (will bolt up with not modification to x-member on a 1st gen)
L43 4 speed 79 - 80 3.67
L45 4 speed 81 - 82 3.93
L50 5 speed 81 - 82 3.93
L52 5 speed 83 3.93 <---Best bet for no mods to x-member

84-95 (will required custom x-member mount due to longer length)
G52 & G54 5 speed 84 - 88 (Carb) 3.93
W56 5 speed 85 - 95 (EFI) 3.95 Manual Hub Equipped Vehicles 89 and up Have W56, 89 and up ADD vehicles have G58.

85 4Runner w/EFI is W56A

W56 is most common and the stronger of the 4cyl trannies
