1982 pickup: odd symptoms

So, this morning I was driving to school. I noticed the truck was shaking a bit, and I only had power when I put it to the floor. I pulled off the road and checked the motor. Everything looked OK. I then got back in and started it, it idled OK for a few seconds, then started to shake. I floored it for 2-3 secs, and it idled and ran fine for the rest of the drive.

Whats the problem? I was thinking fuel filter. It was around 28 degrees, so that may have something to do with it. Thanks in advance.

if you haven't rebuilt the carb recently you may want to consider it, the gremlin that is causing your problem probably lives in there.

thanks guys but I checked the choke first thing. I want to avoid a rebuild, but it may be the way to go. My grandpa seemed to think there may be water in the gas, so I bought some dry-gas to run through it. We'll see if the symptoms return.

Edit: I guess I was wrong

It happened again today. I noticed this
Only when its warm
Clears up if you push it to the floor

I assumed choke. If you've read my thread about my choke, you'll know the PO wired it open (off), i took the wire off. To eliminate that possibility, I wired it back open. Also, there was a tiny bit of milkshake stuff (water/oil) on the inside of the air filter housing, what does this mean?

Please Help!

I would assume that the milky crap is caused from blowby spraying oil from the valve cover vent, into the air cleaner, and then condensation builds up causing it to get milky. Just a thought,

Well disabling the choke did nothing. If anything it made it worse.

So, I picked up a new set of plug wires (rotor, cap, plugs were all semi-new), and a fuel filter. The wires seemed to make it idle smoother and run a little better.

When I put the filter in, something odd happened. I started it, It ran normal, then it started to shake, I put my foot into it and it was running on three. After 5-10 seconds it subsided. I think that was the air in the filter getting ran through. Since that was my symptom, I think the filter may have been the culprit. We'll have to wait and see.

Thanks everybody for your help!

Sorry I didn't post sooner but the problem has been found and fixed.

Two Words- CARB ICING. Yep, the carb would ice up, and when I thought it was running on 3, it was just running very rich. Got a new HAI on the way, that'll fix it. For now, its warmer, and the problem has went away.

Thanks all for your help.
