1982 Pickup: ID oil leaks
Hey guys,
I need your assistance in figuring out where my oil leaks are on my 1982 toyota pickup base 2WD. I have been parking it on a slope, with the front end on the uphill side. When parked here, the oil accumulated all on the bottom side of the bellhousing. Somebody told me that it was running down the back of the engine from the valve cover. I ordered a new gasket. I needed to replace it anyway. Tonight, I have parked it with the front end on the downhill side. I will post back with results. Basically, I am trying to figure out if it is the rear main or valve cover seal.
What are the odds of either?
How big of a job is the rear main seal?
Would a clogged PCV valve contribute to the leaking?
Would using thinner oil (10W-30 as compared to 10W-40) cause the leak to worsen (it seems like it has)
Thanks in Advance.

-main seal is a prime suspect, rear cam seal could be another one
-the rear main is very involved to change, not to to bad though
-probably not, but if its clogged, get a new one!
- yes thinner oil will leak more, have you tryed Lucas yet?, and my 79 (20R) requires 20W-50 (factory manual states this), seems high but with anything else the truck leaks oil like crazy, and burns oil alot
