1981 - Convert to automatic?
Hello everybody. Well as some of you might know by now, I bought an '81 Toyota 2wd 20R truck for my Girlfriend. It has come a long was as a project. No more squeaky brakes - the parking brake now works - the transmission doesn't pop out of gear - it has a bedliner (duplicolor) - it has new tires - it has a side window - the carburetor is clean - it no longer intermittently runs badly - doesn't sound like a tractor (exhaust manifold leak gone). The only major issues left on the truck are some minor wiring gremlins that I haven't diagnosed yet, the drive's side front wheel bearing, and the speedometer cable.
Ok so onto my question. I bought the truck for my girlfriend but now she says she wants an automatic instead (admitedly most of her driving is city driving in a mountain town and unpleasant for a manual-trans novice).
So has anybody done a conversion from auto to manual or vice versa that might want to take a crack as to what I might need to do such a conversion?
I will throw this out there as off topic - if anybody wants to trade their similar year 2wd automatic for my manual...?
Thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!

Swap
I swapped in a '92 auto in my '83 truck behind a 22r. I say no big deal. There are things to consider and it would be best if you did a little searching here and other forums were this has been done. I run a manual shift controller instead of a TCM. This is really the only way to do it in a non-efi(computer controlled) truck. Search and you will find.

I will have to start researching it some. I have been honestly torn with this truck on weather or not to keep the carb or ditch the old 20R motor and swap for a nice 22RE with computer and automatic trans. The old carburetor does so good though - once I replace the AAP it will probably run even better (running rich right now still).
