88 pickup, v6, 4wd, 5sp, project... - socal

This was my dad's truck and it's been in our family for over 17 years. He used it as a daily driver/commuter (never off-roaded) until earlier this year when he somewhat let me have it.

Here is a list of the things I have upgraded between February-April this year. All of the parts were installed BRAND NEW and have LESS THAN 500 miles on them. I went on a desert trip with a bunch of my friends at the end of April and foolishly rolled my truck. The truck was towed to my friend's house and has been sitting on the side of his house ever since. He accidentally left the accessories ON and now the battery is dead.

- V6 3.0
- 5 speed
- 4x4
- 221k miles
- original asbestos headgasket, not included in V06 headgasket recall
- Replaced timing belt, idler bearings, water pump, cam seals, crank seals, thermostat, drive belts, new radiator and cap, upper/lower rad hoses, upper hose outlet block, new TPS ($980 toyota oem parts-sdtrux)
- new OEM spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, cap rotor, air filter, fuel filter ($130-toyotapartsales)
- 1.5 SDORI ball-joint spacers ($110-sdori)
- Downey 3" complete replacement leaf pack ($200-downey)
- Pro Comp ES3000 shocks front/rear & ES2000 steering stabilizer ($150-4wheelparts)
- New Brembo blank rotors ($80-tirerack)
- PFC Carbon-Metallic brake pads ($50-autozone)
- new remanufactured calipers ($50-pepboys)
- new rear brake shoes, not installed.
- rebuilt Aisin manual hubs w/ new gaskets; works perfectly
- new inner/outer Timkin front wheel bearings, seals, gaskets ($50-autozone/marlin)
- new remanufactured cv halfshafts ($140-autozone) left side not installed.
- lifetime alignment at firestone
- enough mobil1 synthetic 75w90 gear fluid for front/rear differentials and tranny

WHEELS/TIRES ($860-4wheelparts) LESS THAN 500 miles
- Rock Crawler Series 97 black steel wheels 15x8, 4.5 backspacing
- BFG All-Terrain T/A KO tires, 33x10.5

- one stock wheel with brand new 0 mile 33x10.5 BFG AT ($160-discounttire)
- Black lug nuts, black wheel locks, black wheel caps ($60-wheelersoffroad)

The truck rolled one entire turn and landed right-side-up. She started right up and the only damage in the engine bay seems to be the radiator bracket being pushed in. The truck actually runs perfectly fine. We even used it to pull a stuck Suburban out of the sand.

So from researching here and on pirate4x4 I've thought about all the different options I have:
1) Choptop + rollcage = trail only rig
2) I could straighten out the roof/cab/a-pillars with a hilift and hammer and finesse a windshield back on.. sorta good to go
3) cab swap
4) cut off a roof/a-pillars from a cab and weld it on my cab
5) find a 88 pickup or 88-89 4runner with a blown headgasket where i can transplant my motor and parts into
6) hold on to truck for however long and slowly work on it
7) part it out... pita
8) sell truck as is and move on

After months of weighing my options I've decided to go with option 8. I just don't have the time and space to work on her anymore. The truck is located in south Orange County, CA.

I know I'm not going to get back remotely close the amount I put into the truck. Is $1400 too much to ask "as is" excluding the wheels/tires? I don't mind selling the wheels/tires/lugs/locks/caps + spare separately for $880. The title is clean and I just renewed the registration as planned non-operational (PNO).

Here are some before pics taken just a couple days before the roll. It really was a clean daily driver. Pics of the aftermath soon to follow...

Cab swap! If I were you and there wasn't any frame damage, I would just do a cab swap. Thats about what happened to me, but luckily I had a little 2wd with the same cab sitting in my yard.

Honestly, I really doubt you could get 1400 for it. You can find running trucks, not rolled for less than that.

Good luck though.

cabs have been pretty hard to come by; it's almost easier to find 1st gen pickups/4runners with blown motors to swap my engine/parts into.

how about $1000 (excluding wheels/tires) and i'll have it towed anywhere within 100 miles of 92692.

i know it's not worth much in its crushed glory but all the recent maintenance/upgrades have to be worth something..
