Lake George, CO...Camping & Hiking w/ Dogs...
Hey guys,
Here's some pics of our first camping trip of the year and first camping trip together since we've moved to Colorado. I found my new favorite area. It's about 35 miles west of Colorado Springs on Hwy 24 in a town called Lake George. The campground was dead, in fact we were the only tent campers there. We stayed at the Travel Port Campground just east of Lake George and went hiking at the Pike National Forest off Hwy 96. It was absolutely beautiful.
How do you like those last two?
Chris

dang i missed that you sold your rig too! sad! are all those pups yours? I want another pup! They look like great dogs!
sometimes I wish I had a taco just for the reason of keeping the pups in the back! the last 2 gf's have had dogs, and my climbing buddy has a husky. A rhino lined rear would be a lot better than the carpet!

Mike, it definitely wasn't my desire to sell the 4runner, but it's going to free up a lot of debt for us, which is probably the smart thing to do. The Tundra is nice for the dogs. We built an elevated deck in the back just above the fenders with indoor/outdoor carpet, and the bed itself is line-x'd. It's great for them and let's us store some stuff underneath it. All 4 of them are ours, which is my wife's choice, that's for sure. I like them all, but the little beagle is pretty much useless. The other three are great dogs for hiking and camping. they love to play outside and in the creeks, etc.

That's a great looking family you have there, Chris. I'm definitely a little jealous. There are two enviroments that I love: the mountians and ocean. But here I am a desert rat! Oh well...just makes the road trips that much sweeter. I'm looking forward to taking my son camping for the first time this summer. He's gonna have so much fun!
Anyway, beautiful pictures....

Pierce is just about 20 months old, and he LOVES dirt. I can imagine what he would look like on a camping trip... He's an active little bugger and LOVES being outside. He's definitely an "outside" kid, like his dad... I grew up camping up in NorCal, near Quincy and Portola on the Feather River, and in Duck Creek, Utah, near Zion. That's what we did for a family vacation, and I am so glad. You're right - some of my dearest memories are on camping trips with my family. I'm definitely planning on keeping the tradition.

We had a small heater in the tent, got a little chilly, but slept most of the night, which was nice. I think anytime now is fine for cooler weather camping out here.
