cb radio...

i recently got a cb from a friend. I've been looking around the inside of my 93 pickup and can't really see a good place to mount it. I was wondering if you have mounted a cb in your truck where did you mount it and how did you mount it i've searched but nothing that really helped. Any help is great and thanks in advance.

I put one under the head unit on my daily, on the trail rig i put it on top of the dash board to keep it dry.

I've also seen people mount the little Cobra's in their ash tray slot

All depends on the radio. What kind is it?

Camrog91 05-27-2009 08:49 AM

its a cobra29 but not one that will fit into the ashtray it is bigger than than those little ones.

I had a big boxy CB radio. I put a strip of velcro on the ash tray and put the other strip of velcro on the front/top of the CB radio. I then stuck it under the ash tray.

The front of the ash tray is at a 45 degree slant, so that was perfect for me to put my CB radio there. It's at a 45 degree slant in the space in front of the shifter and under the ash tray.

Could always screw/bolt it to the glovebox, depending on the year of the rig.....

I did search but didnt see anything good. The truck is a 93. Duperman dave i'll have to check out your idea. thanks

i have a 97 taco and there is a little compartment just below my head unit that i had to trim to fit and drill sound holes through that my cobra fits in nicely if i spent the money on a coax adapter it would fit flush but until then it sticks out a little bit. i dont know what the interior is like on a 93 though

i mounted mine onto the glovebox. it doesnt interfere with passenger leg room at all. my girlfriend confirmed this, so its gotta be a good spot :guitar:

There's a few posts about CB mounting, so he could have added to one of those. But when I was searching back when I installed mine, each post was lacking any ideas other than bolting/screwing the CB radio in.

Well true, But what were you expecting to find..? Custom molded fiberglass center consoles ?

Just sayin...

This topic has been beaten..

Were you able to get the CB installed? That cobra 29 is a pretty big radio for our little trucks. If you go to a home improvment center like home depot or lowe's you can get a piece of flat steel & bend it like a U shape (flat on the bottom) Then you can mount it onto the floor on the transmission hump & drill 2 holes on each side to hold the CB in place upright. I have done this to a few of my trucks. Here is a pic of a cobra 29 in my Bronco II. Good luck.

If it's a 5 speed that will not work I put my Galaxy 99 10meter/cb on the glove box of my 1990 4runner and it is bigger then your 29 and I as well have had not issues with people and leg room unless my friend that is 6ft.5 get's in and all he has to do is is lay his legs to the door side a bit and it works for him fine. I also angled it to the left so I can see the face and read the frequency meter so I know what channel I am talking on.You can also see where I put my external speaker so I can hear it better as well as the passenger.
A couple pics for you to get an idea

i was thinking of putting a cb in my truck to lets post some more pics

That galaxy doesn't look very good mounted there IMO. I would have cut a slot in the glove box itself & had just the face plate showing. Maybe it's just me, but I like things to fit nice & neat.

Here is the CB in my 90 Toyota. It's a smaller midland. I wanted something smaller that would fit in this truck a little better since it's kind of small inside.

It is mounted very well(4 nut and bolt and lock washers hold it to the glove box) never even had a wobble/any movement from it in over 1 1/2 years plus I can pull it and put it in any of my other trucks with no issues and still have full use of my glove box's.
