I say paint them. It helps keep rust down and makes cleaning them alot easier. The dust should just run off. Also it is a way I sort of use to keep track of where I have been on a project. It is unpainted, I know I havent touched that particular area.

Sliders, Wahoo!!!

That is an excellent truck, one thing about something in that great of condition, there isnt a whole lot of improvement left on it. It is always risky buying one that doesnt run. In a best case it is hopefully just needing something like a timing chain, worse case it needs a whole new motor.

Quote: you can paint them if you want the high temp paint is a good choice all the paint does is give them a nice look an can make them a tiny bit easier to clean later on brake dust will stick tenaciously to anything given time

an yay parts! ooh pretty booster lol
Quote: I say paint 'em... Even if you don't see it usually, it's just one more part of the truck that looks good and it doesn't take much time to do

When are the sliders going on?

Thanx guys! Yeah, I have a full can of header paint... but the problem is that its not gloss... Its a type that turns out more of a powdercoated look. IOW, u can paint my LCE header with it and it will look like they just shipped it to me, kake sense? Wondering; Dont I want more of a glossy product, for practical application, that wud be easier to clean? ? ? Or wud that work fine to provide the rust prevention and easy cleaning, just fine?

Yeah Terry, its clean, 85 and longbed4x4, which is often desired (thats wut I wud want).... But, it's a totally base model that, even with the all new basic repairs needed I doubt wud be worth the asking price I would need to get in order to break even, let alone make a lillllll profit, right?

Oh yeah, I think my friend will be able to do the sliders either this weekend or maybe it was in 10 days or so? I will find out.

This brings another question; Shud I weld or bolt em on? I am thinking that I should weld, because the welds CAN, after all, be cut to remove them if I ever needed to, which I really dont foresee ever having to do...... ?

Hahahaha, love it! Lol. .. I just thought I remembered hearing that toyota did not paint them cus I t I insulates and keeps them hotter, longer, and that they are able to become hotter, period, because of said insulation. .. Probably more internet fodder from the "unsubstantiated" realm? Hehehe

Well, I already have the no primer high end header paint, and its full... But, for gloss, I wud have to go get it... and I dont want red on the undercar parts... not on mine anyway, as its all factory looking with a touch of OMEmu yellow, lol. Oh well, maybe I shud just grab some gloss type and call it susie....hehe..
I dont wanna spend more money than necessary since I got everything for under 50$!!! But, I'm a firm believer in doing things right the first time, so I had better, well, do it right the first time, right? Haha

Wow Mark you got alot going on!!!

I agree with the guys on painting the calipers, on my 4runner I got in a hurry towards the end of assembling the front axel, so I have one caliper painted red, and one is bare metal... It drives me nuts that I didn't take the time to paint the other one it looks so much better, lol.

Congrats on receiving your sliders, I personally think welding them on is the way to go, especially if you know someone that can do it for ya, and like you said, you shouldn't have any reason to take them off later... I have SLIDER ENVY, LOL!!! You and Chuckar both just got sliders, and I really want some for my runner, lol, I think they will really set your runner off with that front light bar that you already have... look forward to seeing them mounted!

Quote: Hey guys, I just wanted to answer you really quickly before I headed out,... As it's a pretty simple answer.... It's an 85. And yes, I agree, this would be a hard to profit on type project. I spoke to him this evening, is a very nice dude, but I had an emergency come up that will not allow me to meet with them tonight. If I was going to keep this, and maybe if it had a blown motor at 1500 less or more, allowing me to do a 3 RZ swap,.... Maybe? But, considering it's a 22r, long bed, bone stock, needing a bit of maintenance work and seal work and such, I think it would be a tight squeeze to make anything in the aspect of just a sale, you know?

Even though he's nice show up with 2k cash. Say that's what I have if you can come down I'll take it.

Simple. If he's had better offers he'll say no shake hands and no worries. If he's been sitting on it you just might score.

Are you going to weld tub to the frame or plate it?

Buy a gloss back if you eant but i dont think gloss paint is any slicker than satin paint... is the wax that makes auto paint slick

So, sup, peeps?

Cleaning these calipers was quite the bear.... I'm just hoping that the brake cleaner and caliper cleaner/caliper paint prep stuff didn't damage the seals... Anyhow, they're all painted..... Used caliper paint and priming spray... cast aluminum color.......

While "waiting for the paint to dry", as they say, I restored/reinforced the reservoir mounting screw hole that the knobs at the yards stretch out when forcing them off the screw..... I will have to use my pen file til I can get the screw to fit tight... But it worked! Yea! Lol... GOTTA LOVE JB Kwik Weld! Hehe....

Also took out one of the many sets that I got of these, which are from a 90's Tercel.....

I have lots of heavy gauge fuel or vacuum hose to use for the diff breather mod.... I will hopefully get all of this done in the next few days

UPDATED a couple things ^^^^^^ ;

And, Couple things, guys, I would appreciate input on.....

Reuse these pads?/Buy New?

Painting of the sliders..... 3 options;

1. Hammered Black(Like my grill guard, kind of a Gunmetal Gray)

2. Bedliner(kinda leaning toward that, as I think it would be gripping better to the feet.... And I don't plan to slide on rocks every weekend/WHILE I WOULD LIKE TO! haha)....

3. Gloss Black....

All three of which I have plenty of, already.

Thanks guys.... Hope everyone is well.

Hey man thanks for the message! I've been checking here occasionally, waiting for those sliders

About painting them, my idea for mine was just a rattle can coat and then a layer of grip tape across the top. I would imagine when they get wet, the arch of your boot would have no problem sliding across to the other side. Bedliner, depending on how many times your sliders are actually hit, seems more difficult to maintain.
