Im not the master mechanic but i follow directions well and have good patience and common sense of mechanical specifics. I need help figuring out the problem with my speedometer/odometer/tripometer. All the other cluster gauges work fine. Where should i start? Also Which repair manual should i buy, Chilton or Haynes or any suggestions? Another question, my brakes have been losing pressure but not losing fluid. Is that the master cylinder going out or maybe air in the lines? Any help is much appreciated. The truck is a 5spd 4x4 1991 pickup regular cab 22RE. I will post pics up soon. Thanks to all that can help!

hey kros , sounds like your speedometer cable is broken , as for chilton or haynes they both suck . the fsm is best i think u can download it , not sure . on the brakes i think ur right its the master cylinder . maybe someone else will chime in now.

how do i find out if my speed sensor is a cable(mechanical) or a wire (electrical) ? Ive been reading on this site and found that some 91 and newer used an electrical speed sensor that plugs into the transmission via a gear in the trans. with electrical connection and a wire leading to the cluster sending a magnetic pulse to move the needle....... Whereas the mechanical cable im not sure how it works but it sounds it would be easier to fix from what ive read here. Is there anyone on here that has fixed the speed sensor and cable or wire or whatever it is, On a truck like mine??? Thanks to the few that have helped already!! And thanks to all that can help! I love this truck! cant wait to make it better!
