I cleaned the surface up very good (believe it's called the hot water pipe outlet), but I filled the radiator up with water and it leaks here. There is a paper type gasket from the water pump (believe that is where this is bolted to), but is there also suppose to be another type of gasket here, whether it be rubber o' ring or brass o' ring?
I may not quite have those two bolts tight enough as well, but will have to pull all the stuff out of the way to get a look at it.
Any advice before I start tearing stuff back apart? Thanks.

looks like there's still parts of an old paper gasket on there, so I would only assume yes
if you can't buy one to go in it's place, just cut one out from gasket mateial

or use rtv anything where water goes I use some. never had a leak plus its not like it will hurt it.
This is an older pic, before I cleaned the surface. The "mating" surfaces were spotless. I keep thinking there's an o'ring gasket that goes here as well (along with the paper type gasket), but I could be wrong.
Will have to get back into it again tomorrow and will use the rtv stuff this time as well...........I'm getting pretty good at doing things twice!!
Thanks a lot.

the gasket is supposed to be on the timing cover gasket. a little rtv will work just fine

Bingo.........that is exactly how it is!! I thought for sure the gasket from the timing chain cover would hold, therefore, I didn't use any RTV. Although, I also may not have gotten one of the bolts as tight as it should.Originally Posted by DudeBud

Too late now but thats a good place for the Toyota rtv. Saw the Toyota stuff recommended a at a few different sites. Used it on all the gaskets when I did my rebuild. Except for the HG . So far great stuff.
