I agree that should make a sweet set up. Are you heim's 3/4"? Those adapter from speedway motors are sweet. I am planning to make my own, never knew you could buy them. Hopefully I will have mine done this weekend, well see.Originally Posted by MegaManX268

Yea the Heim is 3/4" but with the misalignment spacer it brings it down to 5/8". If you do get it Done post some pics!

Will def. get some pics up once I get it done. I thingk that we have the exact same Heim's. Now I am wishing that I would have gotten those adapters from speedway motors, but I am going to keep going with my original plan for now. Here are some pics (not mine) that I stole off of another forum.

Plan to machine some tappered adapters today since I didn't order the ones from Speedway Motors. It's going to be alittle extra work than buying them would of been but it's too late know. I have ton a ton of measuring & searching on-line & best I can tell my spindles have a 4 deg. taper. Can anyone confirm that?

I got some work done on my Heim joint / Tie rod end conversion. I didn't have any steel tubing laying around, so I ended up using some solid 4140 & just drilling & tapping the 3/4-16 right & left hand threads. (major overkill) Also made some stainless steel tapered bushings to adapt the heims to the knuckle & drag link. The bushings are 5/8" OD to fit nicely inside the heim's misalignment spacers & 1/2" ID to clear my bolt. I still don't have them on the truck, but here are some pics of the progress.

I got the drivers side installed last night to check for clerance problems. I was expecting 1 or 2.

You can see in these pics how close they come to the castle nut on the pitman arm to draglink.

Never touches though. I will probably turn another 1/8" off of the shaft anyways.

Also the head of my bolt does contact the frame here. It just barelly touches so I am going to try & cut an 1/8" or so off of the outboard misalignment spacer & that should cure the problem.

Other wise everything fits great! My taper adapters work perfectlly
I did make sure that I didn't have any toes showing in these pics.

also you could shave the edge of the drag link all the way around and make it more of a radius. it might only take 1/16'' and radius that off. this is very cool, i've been wanting to do this for a while, just never had the gumption to research and do it myself. very cool thread.

Thanks, Hopefully I will have a finished product to show you by the end of the week.

lookin forward to it. also, the bryan tx area is a nice area. i have family all over tx and wish that i was there too.
Thats nice. I have gotten everything in the mail except for my tubing so im waiting on that, should be here today or tomorrow. So far everything looks good for me but I was planning on drillin that hole out on the drag link and bolting it to the front instead of the back, I just figured it would'nt fit but your setup looks pretty nice!

I'll take another look & you should too, but I thought about putting in in the front also, but decided that as you turn the wheel your tubing will bind against the drag link. Also I did NOT want to drill out the drag link b/c at that point it could never be undone if you needed too.Originally Posted by MegaManX268

the bind is possible, i wouldn't try though. if you did drill and later on wanted to reverse it, you can get some tapers to fix the issue.

I finished modifying the drivers side for clearance. I should get this wrapped up tonight.

Tie rod end to Heim conversion is done! I got all of the clerance issues worked out & painted the adjusters black so they don't rust.

do you notice any difference in the way it steers? and have you had the alignment done, im interested in what the alignment mechanic said.
