Anyone have any good suggestions for getting air out of the cooling system? Did the water pump a few weeks ago and the temp gauge creeps up to halfway and then drops back down to a quarter. I also hear a little gurgling in the heater core. ive opend up the rad cap and let in run and bubble out, but there still seems to be air in it. Any suggestions?

try to get the truck on a incline so the rad cap is the highest point, if that fails try to add some coolant from the heater valve coolant line in the engine.

When I'm filling my system I like to fill it till its just below the top, squeeze the upper radiator hose to get bubbles out, and repeat as necessary until squeezing results in no more bubbles. Sometimes I squeeze and release a few times to allow the coolant and air to move past each other. It's never failed to get dang near all of the air out of any system that I've filled. Having your radiator filler neck higher than the heater core (truck on an incline or front jacked up) always helps. Also, when running the engine to get any remaining air out be sure to turn the temp to HOT to open the heater valve on the firewall.

I have a whole bunch of these engines .

My fix to the problem is to put a 5/8" flushing tee in the heater hose.

Highest point in system on level ground .

Fill with coolant with the cap off the tee gets rid of most of the air take for ride .

Being careful ** wearing gloves just crack the cap on the tee the rest of the air comes out a little coolant your good to go.

till the next time the coolant comes out.

There is a valve that controls the heater on the fire wall of the truck. If you open up the hose on the passenger side of the valve you will get most if not all the air out. I might help to have someone with you when you do it.
