Forgive me if any of this is confusing, this is my first time.

there’s a significant amount of transmission fluid leaking from where the slip yoke inserts into the transfer case. I’ve seen on the 4wd models many videos of how to replace the seals behind the output shafts… but none of those are the slip yoke. I haven’t taken it apart yet, is it the same rear seal just hidden in the case? Is there something different? Should I anticipate needing to replace the yoke?

If you have a 2WD Truck, you don't have a transfer case, just the transmission.

I think what you are looking at is the "Extension Housing" which is just the rear part of the transmission.

There is an oil seal in the Extension Housing that seals against the slip yoke.

Unless your slip yoke is damaged, you should be fine keeping it.

Toyota sells the seal as part of a "seal kit" that includes the oil seal itself, a dust seal (a felt-like ring), and a metal retainer.

You will need some way to get the seal and retainer driven into the extension housing nice and even, keeping in mind the output shaft of the transmission sticks out decently far.

Thanks so much. I’ve seen people using large deep sockets to drive in the seal, do you think it will need to be greased before going in?
