So first time here asking advice, We have a 90 Toyota pickup xtra cab, V6, it won't start unless it's jumped or roll started. We haves far checked the battery and it's in great shape, replace the alternator and replaced the positive terminal and cable, We are going to test the ignition switch tomorrow, I have spent hours on here searching for answers, it was in a body shop for a few months and they replaced the starter, said it was from the dealership, this problem started after that, first it would run great then bam die, it would just quit while driving. We could beat on the starter and most times it would start, that problem hasn't happened for a bit but now we have this one. Any advice would be appreciated greatly, Thank you

If you beat the starter and it would start and now it won't. My money is they put in a POS aftermarket rebuilt starter. Some really don't do much in a "rebuild." Get a Denso starter and then you can eliminate that is it still won't start.

The starter testing machines are some times wrong.
My son has a 2008 Honda Civic. Had a new battery installed. Some times it would start up just fine, and other times the starter would not turn over the engine. Jump start it, and it would crank the engine right up.
Took the starter to Advance Auto to test. It passed the machine test. Told my son to buy a new starter. Problem solved. It was a bad starter.
