I have a WARN 8274 that was first on my FJ40 and then a Jeep Scrambler. I pulled it off the Scrambler before it was sold and now I would like to mount it on my 83 4x4. Is anybody running one on their 1st generation truck? If so what bumper? Did you fabricate your own bumper? I would also like to see any pictures of your winch on your truck and the bumper configuration. I may just build my own and I'm looking for ideas.

Not a first gen but, I put one on my 88. I cut out the center of an old school Smittybilt tube bumper and fabbed up a mount that tied into both the bumper and the frame.

Great winch, got it cheap so I made it work.

Here's a pic of mine (under the cover, sorry). I don't like the bumper all that much, especially the fact that it obscures the turn signals a little. But it's strong.

First, I also have an 8274 that I want to mount someday so I'm interested in options too. I found a few options by google image searching 4Runner 8274, but they looked awkward. There are a few pics from a similar Pirate thread here: *clicky*

Second, enigma I dig those white wagon wheels and skinny tires! Just finished setting mine up similarly...

That's a good looking truck. So your bumper is mounted along with the stock bumper?

Mtrud did you see you quoted yourself lol?

Also I love the white wagon wheels and skinny tires. Wish I had done it to mine.

Here is a current picture of my truck bumper.

Bumpers/8274
Yeah, I didn't mean to quote myself but that was the only way my phone would let me post anything. More pictures of mounting ideas would be great.

Here's my modded Smittybilt on my 88. Again, I know it's not a 1st gen. Just thought it might inspire ideas for yours.

Made kind of a box and bolted it from inside to each of the tubes and from the bottom through the spring hanger and frame.

That is the same Bumper I put on my 2000 Tacoma

Just figure out what you want making sure to have enough room for the Winch .

Build what you like.

not really many options flat plate type round or square tube or rectangle tube

Here's a picture with the cover off. The whole winch bumper kind of tilts up. It's welded on or I would adjust it down. I'm tempted to try to jack up some immovable object, with the jack on either side of the winch on the bumper.

The only parts of the stock bumper left are what you can see; it was cut away behind the winch. I pretty much like everybody elses better. How many times can you cut a bumper off and weld on a new one?

Oh yeah, thanks, I like the tires/wheels too. I have the same ones (size) on my Napco, believe it or not. I could go bigger on it if I wanted to, though.

8274 Bumper
I like both ideas but I'm leaning towards what Enigma has done. I have a decent front bumper now and I like the idea of welding on in front of the stock bumper. That also gives room for the 8274 to mount.

No doubt about the best I've ever had. It's so strong and very fast too.
