CB Antenna Mounting Question...

Okay I Had A Magnetic CB Antenna
One day I was driving down a road and a branch began to fall...
I gunned it cause if I tired to stop it would have fell on the windsheild...
And that wouldn't have been good...
So the antenna got ripped off and that was the end of that...

I want to get a new Antenna But I don't want a magnetic one...
I also do not want to mount it on or near the hood...
I also didn't want to mount it anywhere off the bumper if possible...
(really want to keep it behind and out of the way...

So I was thinking...
Is it possible to mount a CB antenna on the Rear Roof Rack Rail?

I don't know what basic principles apply to a mounting CB Antenna since I have only had experience with The magnetic mount...

I read somehwer that they had to be grounded?
Is this correct?

Just a newbie to the CB world and needing some advise...

Here is a pic of the rail I am talking about...

Any imput is greatly apprciated....
The magnetic one was mounted right in the center behind the bar before...
(Sorta liked the look too... Made the 4Runner feel like a Giant RC car... Ah my childhood days...)

Thanks Alot Y'all

you could probably ghetto-rig some sorta CB mount to the rail but you would need to run a separate ground wire as those rails im sure arent a good ground. run the ground straight to the frame if possible. otherwise, have you looked at a rear mount such as on SC4Runner's runner? i had mine like that but i don't think i got any pics of it that way

Yeah, teh Rails are a mix of plastic and metal (can't tell whcih is which really...)
If I have to run a ground I will...
I just don't want it in front of me cause I one don't liek the look and two it would get distracting after a while...
I will have to look into SC4Runner's set up...
I was going to try to avoid the bumper till later when I had a custom bumper fabed up (on the list of many things to do to this 4Runner...)

I also had another question...
I see alot fo guys out there Running Dual Antenna's...

Is there any particular point to that?

Just curious...

It is JacksonPT that had the roof rack CB. he used a NGP or Non Ground Plate antenna.

Getting the Radio and Antenna next week to!

Hey I already replied to you with a lengthy PM, but, yeah, these guys know what they are talking about. :)

You need a NGP antenna to run up on the roof-rack, and regular if you plan on having a rebounding surface behind.

AWW!!
Don't Feel Bad!!
I actually read through all the research you gave me...
To the point of blood shot eyes...
So It was greatly apprciated thank you...
I Decided to go with the door mount cause I took some other things into consideration like...
School I park in a parking garage so...
A stick coming off the roof wouldn't be to good...
2 It dosen't look like anytime soon that landscaping companies are gonna come out and clear the roads around here...
(So many low lying branches, all the school buses and UPS guys are pissed about that...)

But again thanks fro your help Tofer!!!

And thanks for the long PM SC4Runner!!!

Great help!!!

Can't wait till next week when I get all of it!!!

only problem is that you'll only be able to hear and talk to people in front very well, makes it a quasi directional. I live in the country and have yet to have it pop off. I spend sept-jan in the woods hunting and most branches are only 2 ft above the roof

YotaFun Dec 31, 2006 09:27 PM

Well i got a 5 foot anteneea that sit about 2 1/2 feet above the roof so...
Now i just gotta learn to adjust everything perfect
