to be honest...I don't know what to say. The new front suspension looks good... but then I saw everything else o_O

I mean, I know you gotta spend big bucks to work on trucks (you can quote me on that rhyme lol) but lift blocks and that suspension setup looks pretty el cheapo to me. And those sliders...looks like you ran out of metal and just wanted to finish with whatever scrap you had left. Same with that front bumper.

I mean props for doing it yourself but I dunno if I'd trust it on the trails... o_O

Blocks FTL, But everything else looks good...

I think fillsrunner4 tried his rear shocks kind of like that /\ but found he had way too much body roll and the shocks wouldnt do much at that kind of angle anyway.

I'd find a way to keep them a bit more vertical.

Looks like a sapling could bend it

I'm going to do something similar when I build my winch bumper, keeping the stock outer/signal lights/corners.

Keep it up, as long as your OK with it that's all that matters.

I'm going to do something similar when I build my winch bumper, keeping the stock outer/signal lights/corners. Kind of a cross between yours and TOYOTA1's, using 1/4" thick 3"x3" angle, 5/8 thick 12" wide plate and 1/4" thick 2"x2" square.

Maybe its just me but it looks like that bumper will fold up on itself if there was a strong gust of wind.

is the point of this "bumper" just for holding some lights?......

it seems like the processes of building it is driven by flying by the seat of your pants.....

I think after a while of looking at it your going to want to redo it, perhaps using some material that is MUCH stronger than half inch square tubing.

:bang:

shakes_24 12-30-2008 06:10 PM

I'm thinking maybe some welding practice is in order :hillbill:

rowdy235 12-30-2008 08:37 PM

For what its worth I think the bumper looks good. Could use some more reinforcement on the stinger part of it, but looks great otherwise.

If you post it, you WILL get opinions on it.

Personally, I think its about the ugliest most pointless thing I've seen that someone might call a "bumper"........ I think I could jump kick it and bend/break it, and there's no way it would support the weight of the truck in any way, form or fashion (goes for the "sliders" too).

But to each his own. Some guys like 16 guage 1" square tubing........ I used it one time for a roof rack, and didn't even think it was anywhere near beefy enough for that.

It doesn't have a Solid axle up front, so it probably doesn't need all the body mounts either. :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang:

I just don't understand the point......... 1" square tubing and now some 3/8" bar stock. Attached to the stock bumper in a couple spots, some "funny angles" (Snatch reference) and its supposed to be badass?

I will say though that the light guards you threw on there will hold off some mean rose bushes and tall grass.

It isn't done so yall should calm down with the talking smack.

Are you going to wrap it in some 2" tubing? Or is this just a mock-up of what the real bumper is going to be?

If not, then the trash talking continues.

coolboatguy 12-31-2008 09:53 PM

ok i thought jfowl was being harsh at first but hey that last comment pretty much summed it up. but i actually cant wait until its done. these hold your horses moments usually turn out to be not bad. kudos to posting as your doing it.

86Toyrunna 12-31-2008 10:52 PM

i think all that people are tryin to say is that generaly you do not see that grade and size and style of metal for armor.. mainly because it does not hold up well to abuse, when it comes to armoring your rig just throwing steel at it and saying its strong enough, really isnt enough. it takes a bit of R&D. there are alot of guys and gals on here that are some pretty hardcore wheelers and know what works and what dont. there is a reason that people spend the money on high strengh tube and get it tig welded. now i understand that not every one can come up with the $$$ for that nice tube or have the abilities to TIG... but really from the looks of the bumper and sliders you might wish you would have done something different if you do have a hard contact on them. but as the old saying goes... To each his own... hope i didnt step on any toes or irratated anyone

i think this looks sick
is it finished or you got more, im thinking maybe cover the gap between the bumper and radiator
oh and you could fill in the gap between the stinger and and light protectors
just a few ideas

Sick burn :fire: hehe
All in all to me it looks alot stronger than those stock toyota grill guards.

4banginRunner 01-04-2009 08:45 AM

You guys are a bunch of :llama:'s

Just a few points of interest

1. Front end looks good :great:
2. Blocks aren't going to win you praise around here...
3. Your rear shock tabs leave alot to be desired...make them more like this or just buy them http://www.marlincrawler.com/suspens...le-shock-mount
4. Those "sliders" need alot more reinforcement, and what is that small piece of rod on there doing?
5. Where's your rear bumpstops?
6. What exactly to you plan to accomplish with this bumper? Just for looks, or protection? If the latter...time to go back to the drawing board.
7. Missing body mount (front pass. side)?
