Yes, they made a 22re turbo. They are pretty rare, but there are quite a few members here with them.

So how would I know if this truck was factory? The truck eather has a blown head gasket or warped head and a busted back window. Honestly now, not just to get me to switch of to the good ol' Yota from my Jeep, Is it worth it?
This is the peice I would be trading

Its possible its factory.

toyota4x4907 01-12-2009 02:55 PM

If I had a Heep, I would trade for a factory 22r-te. if it looks factory, most likely it is. get the VIN, look it up. there should be other designations that will tell you for sure if its factory.

siloped 01-12-2009 03:01 PM

Where can I look up the vin? Why's it gotta be a "Heep"?

toyota4x4907 01-12-2009 03:09 PM

idk man. Just search around here for pics of turbo 22res, compare them to the engine of the one you want to trade.

I know I've said is before, but you guys rock. On all the diesel forums I am on, it would take me 4 days to get all this info. Thanks. Maybe I'll see some of you guys on the trails soon, in a Yota

Is there a diffrence between the cylender heads from the turbo and non-turbo motors?

BoostedRNR 01-12-2009 03:45 PM

Yes there is a difference in size of the combustion chamber. I have a turbo 4runner and it says turbo EFI on the intake. Thats a good sign of stock turbo

siloped 01-12-2009 04:34 PM

I just got off the hone with the guy and he said its factory. He said it is posted on the cab and motor. Turbo EFI or sumthing like that. Its an 85. Would putting a non-turbo

toyota4x4907 01-12-2009 05:00 PM

Turbos only came on EFI engines and most likely its an automatic.

siloped 01-12-2009 05:06 PM

It EFI but he said its a 5 spd. What about the heads? Anyone?

BoostedRNR 01-12-2009 05:09 PM

You didn't finish your post but I'm assuming your asking if you can run an re head on a rte turbo motor? Yes you can, lots of people do it. I'm pretty sure mine has a non-turbo head on it. It just raises the compression a little bit.

5spd turbos are rare. They had to be special ordered from Japan, as far as I know. He could have swapped in a 5spd, though.

Sorry, Thats exactly what I was lookin for. And thats what I will do. I don't plan on boostin the crap outta this motor so that sounds the way to go.
Thanks.

huh. He didn't say anything about right hand drive.

BoostedRNR 01-12-2009 05:20 PM

Is it a 4runner or truck? If its a 4runner its very very rare, I've never heard of one but i'm pretty sure they made manual turbo trucks

jsn_stockard 01-12-2009 05:20 PM

22r has taller block and dish pistons. Turbo has dish pistons as well. 22r has no knock sensor spot, and thats very important for a efi motor

No. Special ordered from the factories in Japan. They were made in Japan and imported over.

siloped 01-12-2009 05:45 PM

I think I'm getting you guys. We will find out just exactly what the deal this weekend.

Sageman 01-12-2009 05:50 PM
