Brand new here and need some help. I am a long time fan of the 22r(e) and know a few things but right now im having an issue with my toyota rv (86 rogue 22re). Out of the blue it died and the oil light came on and now it wont start. It has plenty of oil and the the light starts to go away after a few cranks of the starter. i did a bootleg test and it might not be getting spark but im not sure, and why would that have anything to do with the oil light. If anyone has had this happen please let me know and if you have suggestions i could use the help.. thanks a ton

did it die before the oil light came on or did the oil light come on then die?

Just an idea, but on older Ford trucks the oil light will come on if the sender wire from the gauge/idiot light to the o/pressure sensor either comes off, or the sensor itself goes bad completely. Even with the proper amount of oil in the engine. Which is why it's always good to have mechanical gauges......
I didnt see the light on until the car stalled. It seems as if it happened at the same time..
i can check the wire but dont have mechanical gages. thanks

lol that's normal, if the engine aint turnin it aint making oil pressure therefor the light comes on. For this same reason is why the oil light comes on when you just turn the key and don't crank the engine.

The oil light will always come on when the engine isn't running and the key is in the "on" position. It means the oil pressure is low, which it certainly is with the engine off. Don't worry about the light and check for spark, fuel, and air.
Edit: LOL, you beat me to it!

well i was able to fix it with a little help from a friend. turns out it was an ignition switch problem.. now im losing electrical intermittently all together (except the head lights and horn)
