i live in south florida, and there aren't any hills, but we got alot of water, and alot of bridges. there's 4 major bridges in my area, and about 5 or 6 that i travel across normally. i got a question for you hillbillies out there
....
i notice sometimes when cruising in 5th, and going over the bridge the truck starts to slow down, i usually down shift to 4th on the incline and then shift back to 5th when i get to the top. is that the right way to do it? am i overthinking it?
BTW: the hillbillies statement wasn't meant to be offensive, we like to be called swampbillies down here in florida

well... luckily i drive some pretty steep roads. I drive around a 20% grade daily, and find that to get up it, i cruise at 55 at the bottom, downshift to fourth, get up to 60 at the bottom, floor it up the hill, and make it goin 50 at the top. If i drop below 50, i have to drop it to 3rd and floor it. If you're going 70+ at the bottom of the hill, you should have no problem going up in 5th gear. I find that in my truck, 2nd gear is the most versatile, and for super steep hills, is the best when going less than 35.

If I didn`t have any real hills to climb I would let my mind work.
I would use 2nd gear low range just for practice . Going down the other side even slower.
