Both of your runners look great. Great job you did.

Here's my first attempt at painting anything using acrylic and an air compressor. Still needs a wet sand and cut n polish.

You don't need a booth or a $500 gun. Just the right paint and some patience.
I used Dupont Nason 2000, Single Stage (No Clear) and painted outside over powdery dirt. The paint cost about $300 and yield 1 1/2 gallons after reducer and catalyst. The Single stage worked great because I was able to sand out any dust/bugs out of paint and spray over that spot. I buffed it all out using more dupont products and the finish was a smooth, better than factory finish. |
I'll be painting my '91 soon. Sticking with the original Cardinal Red single stage. I have new fenders which I was thinking I'd paint off the truck then bolt them on. I'll paint the box off the truck too so I can get the back of the cab. Figured I'd paint the hood and cowl cover off the truck too. I plan to paint it with the doors shut but I'll probably take out the door handles. I just hate seeing tape marks.
Any pointers? |
I found pulling the doors off as well, ended up being easier in the long run. If you have the fenders off and the doors, The cab gets pretty small and keeping a wet surface as you paint is easier IMO.
PICS! |

PICS! I work at a Toyota dealership with a bodyshop so I'll see if I can sweet talk the shop foreman into letting me use a booth after hours. Maybe convince one of the painters to shoot it for me for some cash. Lots of pics here: http://toyota4x4project.blogspot.ca/ |
Very Sweet!!!! Thanks for the link.
Can't wait to see that fresh new paint! |
