here is my 2wd toyota

lifted with some mud tires

with some clearance and alot of skinny pedal a 2wd can be quite respecable offroad, its not going to go rock crawling but its seen alot of trails. iv got alot more into the truck than its worth due to sentimental reasons, i took my drivers test in it when i was 16. i sold it the person that bought it toasted the motor i bought it back went all the way down to southern california and trailered it back to north dakota and now its back on the road. i am going to wait and see how it does this winter in the snow but an sas 4wd swap will probably be in its future.

I love the fact that you go offroading, alone, in your 2wd truck.

Simply awesome!

I don't think either one of them work up there any more, but Paige and Veronica; Paige worked the drive through (use to just swing by and get some tea), and Veronica, from what I could tell just bounced around and did a little of everything. We use to all meet out in the woods in PSJ, and when I knew she was coming out there after work, I call her and bug her to bring me some sweet tea. Well after about 2 months of bothering her about it and her never bringing me any sweet tea, one night she brought me 2 gallon jugs! That was awesome, lol...

anywho, wayyy off topic now, lol

Yeah the 2wd can get-er-done, but it does require a little more driver skill and knowing your truck. If you go from wheeling a 2wd to a 4wd, you'd be amazed; follow those same 2wd lines and you'll never get stuck... but then again, what's the fun in that

don't waste your money on swampers, if it's your dd they wear out fast. Just get some decent all terrains and lock the rear. If you think your unstoppable now, wait until you lock it.

This is my old 2wd (donor cab for my old rolled 4x4)
if you look closely you can see that I have a/t's in the rear and street tires in the front. Before it died (where it sat in the pic) I planned on locking it in the rear. It saw it's fair share of moderate trails. But I always went with 4x4 buddies. It's no fun spending the night in your truck on power line trails...

i agree that a 4wd will outperform a 2wd any day but with some driver skill and some ground clearance you can go a lot of places that an inexperienced driver with a 4x4 and open diffs can get stuck.

Haha you wouldnt believe what a locked 2wd can do haha, my buddy comes out and beats the piss out of his all the time. It goes pretty well. I think it only got stuck once on the day the picture was taken, because he excited the body of water up a slippery bluff and it got high centered at the top.

Do not waste your time or money with a 2wd. Just save up for a 4wd. An open diff 4wd will go alot farther than a locked 2wd anyday. I had a Ivan Dan 6" lift on my 87 2WD and it was fun but I got stuck many times and I even had limited slip rear.

someone once told me you use 4wd to get yourself out of the mess 2wd gets you in. And if you can't get out with your own 4 wheels, you shouldn't have been there in the first place.
given what he said, 4wd is the 2wd 'airbag'. So what when you're in 4wd and get stuck? To him, that's the sign of an idiot- that means the driver doesn't know his vehicle and there better be come-alongs and straps handy.

oh well.

when driving one of my 4wd trucks i lock it in as soon as i get on the trails. the problem is once you start to get stuck in 2wd if you stop and lock it in, somtimes its to late where if you would have had it in 4wd the whole time a little skinny pedal and some wheel speed would have pulled you right threw. when driving my 2wd truck its all about the skinny pedal and momentum and once your stuck your stuck, its time for the tow strap or the come along

Okay, I'm keeping my 2wd since I just rebuilt the engine. Also, my plan was to get swampers in the rear JUST for having fun. I'll still have a set of street tires. The ATs in the rear are just about toast. The front are still pretty good (same tire)...but I did a lot of burnouts.

Anyway, went back up with my bro in his '94 4x4 and got stuck in my truck twice. First, I backed into a tree and put a nasty dent in my bed and had to use my come-along to move my truck sideways (it worked!) that was fine. So we went on this really nasty trail and I was almost at the top of this little hill and I tried it 3-4 times and I was doing about 4k rpm and let off...then noticed my battery light came on and it was over heating. Shut it off and came back later. Backed down and needed a push because my tire was off the ground.

Anyway, the belt flew off. Couldn't possibly put it back on with our hands. So we put it half way on and it squealed the whole time. Drove 35 miles home like that. And took some more pictures

These are from the first night ->

Honestly I like having a 2wd a lot. I can beat on it all day and she'll ask for more. I just like seeing peoples eyes when they see this beast flying past them on trails with their 4x4s. Its fun...and I like getting stuck and taking risks

Atleast when u finally open your wallet for a 4x4 you will be really good at using your recovery gear and you will be an effecient unstucker

haha...I hope so. But I've been thinking about buying a Chevy instead of a Toyota. Because I miss mine! But I would like a 4x4 Toyota...hmm. They seem way to expensive though.
