This is my first write up so go easy on the jokes.


These are the coils I got off of ebay. They are 14" tall at set at 100lbs. The plates are pure ZUK customs. There is a top and a bottom, the bottom one has a hole in it for the spring pack retaining bolt thingy and the top comes predrilled for two self taping bolts. The bolts were only on long enough to get over to the MIG.



First measurement. Although the tape is a little off it actually measured out at 11 1/4 inches. It was just hard to hold it in place and snap a photo.



Ok the first thing you don't want to do is have the rig fall off the jacks and jack stands. No harm done other than bending the backing plates a little.



Pull off the rubber thingy (in my hand) and replace it with the lower mount.



Cut the top mounts out with a saws all or a grinder, grind the mounting surface flat and install. I didn't even need a compression tool for these. I just mooshed them with my hands and put them in. Be sure to put the top mount into the spring and then slide it under the frame. If you mount the top mount first it's going to suck getting the coil in there. I actually took this one back off and adjusted it a little before taking it to get welded.


Both sides are now done and we need to take a measurement to see what, if any, lift we got out of it. That shows 14" when the tape is held properly. So we got what 2 3/4 inches of lift? Since the back was a little low anyway I can now put in some 1 1/2" BJ spacers and it'll be level.



Last photo before I went and welded the mounts to the frame. Not too bad if I do say so myself.



The first test drive was amazing. Since the spring packs are no longer sitting on the overloads and completely flat the rear end doesn't bounce around at all. All told it was done and I was drinking beer in about 4 hours. This includes a trip to the store for blades and a long trip into town to the MIG.

Were you trying to fix some rear sagging or are you doing this to lift the back above stock? Since you have added coil springs to the stock existing leaf springs I would think the ride is more firm?

almost anything is garunteed to increase the ride quality of a pickup with tired springs riding on the overloads.

nice write up, how is the flex? i may consider this for a little load carrying capacity on my 84

I was trying to fix some sag and get a little lift out of it as well as increasing my load capacity without making the spring pack more stiff. Believe it or not it rides better than before. Without the coils the spring pack was totally flat and riding on the overload, terrible on rough gravel roads. Now it rides pretty darn smooth and the back end doesn't bounce all over the place. Before doing this I had about 3 inches before the rubber bumper hit the metal stop on the frame. With camping gear in there it was down to less than 2 inches so any average sized rock would bottom out the suspension and push the body over. Now I'm hoping to be able to pack some more gear in there and still be able to articulate a little.

I'm hoping to take it out and see how well the new coils flex. I'll be sure and take pictures when I go. I also plan on loading the bed full of a cord of firewood and then driving it out of the mountains. I think that'll be a dang good test of the springs.

yeah im sure it will youll have to let us know how it went. i just towed a huge trailer with my yota cause my dad's dodge broke down and he needs his tools at work i was surprised how well it towed.

i got my first yota a few years ago and i will always be a yota man too they are so great. i have 2 running ones now but i want more haha

I bought some of those brackets awhile back from ZUK also. Have been lazy and not installed them yet. I need to get the coils first though, LOL. How much did you spend on the coils?
I also have a flip kit for mine and want to do them all at the same time.

As far as it falling goes I blocked the drivers side but not the passengers. I got it up on a floor jack, pulled the tires, set it on jack stands and when I lowered the jack it was pinned under the diff. The jack stands are a little short. So I grabbed the high lift and put it under the MC bumper and about the time I got it up high enough to get the floor jack out the front end shifted to the passengers side. All I could do was step back and watch it slowly fall over. I then blocked the passenger side, locked it in 4x, engaged the hubs and tried again. No worries as long as your smarter than the truck and have plenty of coffee.

Amen to that! 1 can never have TOO MUCH coffee....!

Yes mine is heavier, but I think 100# or 125# coils will do for me.
