Did anyone catch Extreme 4x4 on the Toyota SAS this weekend?
Did you guys notice how he took the entire front clip off the truck.
I have done this on Chevy's but I thought the Yota's inner fenders were welded to the cab. Anyone know if the front clip unbolts like a chevy?
This would make doing an engine swap or sas a helluva lot easier.

Yea not sure how they could have possibly done that without cutting. The only Toyota Vehicle that used bolt on inner fenders (in America) was the Landcruiser. The 40, 60, and 80 series all had bolt together front ends. The 100 series is all welded now. All 4runners, trucks, and ALL cars toyota ever made were welded.
Reason? Less labor as machines can do it all, methinks.

He said that the front was all welded up. He said that most domestics were bolted together, but that the imports were usually welded on. He also said that most people aren't gonna dovetail the front end on a Yota when they are first doing everything.

i seen that show a few months ago and wish they would do a folow up on it, but i remember them talking about cutting the clip off.

Anyone know if that episode is floatin around the internet anywhere? I'm one of the only ones at work who hasn't seen it and thats all they talk about now

they used a plasma cutter and just cut it off, since there gona narrow it and do an engine swap on it.

Yea, itunes sells them. The follow up show is supposed to be on this coming Sunday, I think. They should show the first one again on Saturday.

Ian stated exactly what you said. If you remember, he is bobbing and dovetailing the truck at the same time. I have the whole episode downloaded to my laptop so I can watch it again. If you go to their website, you can buy the video for $1.99 per part (2 part series recorded earlier this year).Originally Posted by ToyotaGuru

There is a tool you can buy from Eastwood that allows you to drill out the spot welds that keep it together. I've used it with unibody Z-cars. Originally Posted by hmmwv15

It's not easy to do, but you set the depth and it drills out the weld pretty well...

I'm going to cut my front clip and fenders out when I do my 350 swap. My core support is bent up pretty good anyways, and I might have to move it in order to get the 350 where I want it.

I cut mine off of the 89 reg cab I had. I used a 4.5 cutoff wheel and went about an inch out from the actual cab/firewall. It took no time at all, there are just a few places that are double walled and a little wider than the cutoff wheel. No big deal.
I never thought of reusing it and making something removable. It would actually be really easy to do. You could have a latch in each fender well and put a hinge on the bottom of the core support, and have it swing forward. The real pain in the ass would be relocating everything on the inner fender wells. It could be done though.

I don't know how they are going to fit a large engine into a narrowed front clip. There's not a lot of room with the standard width.

i think i remember them drilling out the spots welds, and it didn't appea to be that many of them...but yes, domestics are a little bit easie to take apart...Originally Posted by ToyotaGuru

Mine had spot welds and a crazy glue/caulk. There is no way you will be able to pull it out with just drilling out the spot welds.

You chip off the factory seam sealer, and drill out the spot welds, and it will pull away. I know this for a FACT given the number of times I have done it.Originally Posted by Travisfab

That episode was on last weekend. That one and 1st part are on all the time. He said it was a tight fit but not tight enough that they would have to move everything back.
