Has anyone ever tried this. I drive a 240 wagon as my dd. So I buy these filters 10 at time. I and currently rebuilding 22re, so I needed a filter for it. I grabbed a volvo filter just to see if it fit. To my surprise it did. I like these filters due to the bypass valve and the anti-drain back.
Just thought I would pass something I learned to the board.
thanks

Yeah, they're the same thread (3/4" fine) and o-ring size. I use Toyota v8 oil filters on volvos, fords, vw 4-cyl, etc etc. No reason you couldn't fit a volvo filter on a toy, as long as there is room for the larger diameter (which there is).
The Toyota v8 filters are also very good quality units, and about $7/ea retail from Toyota. So use whatever you have on hand, then use whatever is priced better when you run out.
Just stay away from Fram.

90915-yzzd3 is the v8 filter. It's interchangeable with the yzzd1 which is the v6 filter. The difference is about 1/2" in length.Originally Posted by sh0kk86

Yeah they're all made in Thailand now. The jdm filters are still available, but more money, and not really worth the difference in price.
Cheers.

Funny you mention that. My brother is a Volvo mechanic, and used to own an 83 240 turbo. He ended up getting a case of oil filters for it at work. I always take the filters and stick them on my truck, as they're significantly larger diameter than the stock ones.Originally Posted by tcop

my 22R, 1JZ, 2JZ, my brother's old B21, his new Saab B234, all share the same oil filter thread. I use Toyota V8 filters normally.
It's the same as most Fords too. V8 mustang filters screw on, and are massive.
