Spring 2008 Trip Schedule

January 12: Axle Alley – Westfall & Schaefer (Hard)

January 26: Sandy Beach (Four Peaks area) - Westfall (Hard)

CANCELED

______________________________________________

February 9: Cross Verde and out Log Corral – Reynolds & Schaefer (Medium)

Feb 9, 2008, the plan is to run Log Corral. The Forest Service or BLM or someone is gateing alot of access in the area. Elvota has been scouting heavily and we will have a trip reguardless, even if it is Sunflower (Josh's Trail).

So meet at the Arby's on 87 (Beeline Highway) and Shea Blvd at 8:30AM for a 9:00am pull out.

Log Corral is a medium trail, it has a few hard sections at the beginning. I would have at least a rear locker and sliders although Jon ran it open, so I guess it is how much abuse you are willing to inflict on your rig.

Updated.

BLKNBLU 01-20-2008 05:45 PM

Are we going to do anything about Log Corral/Verde conflicting with Tim's 4 Peaks Cleanup, or just leave it as an either/or situation? What's the general consensus? IIRC it could possibly hook up with the 404 area on 5/3 no?

Bighead 01-20-2008 06:21 PM

I'm setting up the time off for Moab and trying to work something out for the next couple of months.

Several of us mentioned to him that there was already a trip planned on that day before he rolled it out. He said that is the only day he rangers or park people could do it.

So to answer your question, I'm still planning on running Log Corral as planned. We could stop on the way back and participate in the clean up.

BLKNBLU 01-21-2008 10:43 AM

Got it. Thanks.

Any word on this Steve?? I know it's a little far out still but I'm trying to plan my vacation days and was wondering if it was something that my 4runner would be able to run.

Nothing is really nailed down as far as dates. Most likely will be a 4 or 5 day thing. Maybe leave Scottsdale Thursday afternoon, return on Sunday or following Monday.

You 4Runner would be more than capable. The Escalante trip would not be considered a "wheeling" trip. There will be plenty of dirt roads and a couple sections that will require 4WD... but my vehicle is always extremely overbuilt for the area.

Basically, it will be a trip to see some amazing scenery and do some very cool hikes. The exact route has yet to be determined, but the trip will require everyone to be ready for car camping with trips into town everyday for refuel and food. Will bring our dog and most likely camp in a tent next to the 4Runner.

I was just wondering cause if I wasn't able to make it I thought of running up to Bluff/Montezuma Creek area and running some trails in that area, (4 corners the back way :banger: ) and try to find Poncho's House again. Along, with a few other things.

I'll keep an eye out for a date/time.

westy44runner 01-23-2008 05:08 AM

Sandy Beach has been postponed to a further date.

SOAZtim 01-23-2008 08:39 AM

Crown King sounds like fun. If we need to kill more time on day one there is always Minnehaha Flat. All of the tractors, buildings and truck are from that area in the pics at the bottom of the page at my blog here:

Dang, I was hoping to come up this weekend and ride along with someone :bang: . Oh, well. I'll just wait until the next one. Unless, something is still in the works:D :banger:

westy44runner 01-23-2008 07:45 PM

Unfortunately there is quite a bit of water at Sandy Beach, so we are going to plan it when the desert dries out some more. Rain is in the forecast for this weekend as well, so right now nothing has been planned.

We'll see how the weekend pans out.

Albuquerque Jim 01-24-2008 08:27 PM

There's a chance I might be in AZ for this run...

February 9: Cross Verde and out Log Corral – Reynolds & Schaefer (Medium)

I am planning to fly out for a business meeting on Friday, I could stay for Sat's run.

Great, it would be fun to have you out on the trail again. Reynolds and I are scouting out an alternate route for this run tomorrow.

Man you could have totally gone with "... so I guess its whether or not you've got Sonoran Steel parts installed..."

Elvota 02-01-2008 09:02 AM

... or maybe "depending on the skill and patience of the driver :hillbill:"

I think the section is difficult, and wouldn't have guessed Jon to make it through so well. There really wasn't much aggression in his successful style either. Just good sawing of the steering wheel and wise line selection.

By the way, if one of the routes Westy and I have found actually works, Log Corral will most likely be run backwards towards 87... which makes the rock garden much easier, but not simple.

There even appears to be a route that would bypass the rock garden completely and heads back south... but that might no be passable at this point.

I try to keep the pimping to a minimum, but yeah, SAW's OME's and every other front end to try that rock garden at the start blew axles up.

toy_tek 02-01-2008 10:10 AM

Does that qualify me for sponsorship? :hillbill:

Cool. I expect to attend. Too bad about Jim.

i_love_tacos 02-01-2008 11:53 AM

im going to make this one. i get paid that week so expect to see me and my muddy truck there.

BLKNBLU 02-01-2008 12:12 PM

Also, finally got my LCE exhaust on. It's got a big FAT chrome tip on it that hangs down pretty low and has carnage written all over. We ought to put a stopwatch on it or something to see how long it lasts.

Elvota 02-01-2008 12:37 PM

uhmmmmm... bling carnage.... very yummy. :hillbill:

westy44runner 02-01-2008 01:23 PM

Awesome, it looks like a good turnout!

Albuquerque Jim 02-02-2008 04:13 PM

Sorry guys, I won't make this one.

I will try to make another run soon.

Elvota 02-02-2008 04:41 PM

Well the whole "600 miles plus away" thing makes for a pretty good excuse. :hillbill:

See you next time... and maybe in that incredible F-Toy you are building.

westy44runner 02-07-2008 08:50 AM

Feb. 16 - Table Mesa: This has been cancelled, trip leader has other obligations. It will be rescheduled to a later date.

toy_tek 02-07-2008 02:00 PM

What are the details for Minors revenge? Difficulty? This is the next one I'll be able to make since I'll be out of the continental US for a couple weeks.

wormhole 02-07-2008 02:45 PM

What all can you guys tell me about the runs on the Feb. 23 and March 22? I wanting to get out of Yuma more this year and wheel with you all more since the last offical run I did with guys was Sunflower last year. I'm looking to come up for these runs

I'll be up to Sedona again the second week of June. To run some trails again.

The Edwards Park trail is a mild trail. 4x4, rock sliders and a rear locker would be more than enough. It is located close to 4 Peaks. I believe the trail is listed in the AZ Backcountry Adventures book too.

Crown King is similiar in difficulty to Edwards Park. Desoto Mine is a step up from the above listed trails. It is definitely doable though in a 4runner with locker and sliders, good driving and spotting always help alot too!

It would be best if you picked up a Warn M8000 for that new front bumper of yours. Otherwise someone will have to flip around and pull you up.

They are not that expensive, you can find them online with free shipping. M8000 is all you will need, actually more than you will need.

Bighead 02-08-2008 07:38 AM

If the Moab dates change for any reason let me know. I just got confirmation I have the time off for the dates already posted.

Steve...make sure my seat is ready. I don't think my IFS can keep up with the AZ buggies.

So far there is only one buggy, but a lot more beater old trucks. You can resume your old position.
