Solid Mounts Good or Bad Idea?
 

Hey all,
I was looking at the Total Chaos solid motor mounts, and transmission mount/crossmember. I couldnt believe the price on these. I was wondering if these were something 4WD/mud/rock guys would benefit from or are they intended for the sand/long travel type of guys?
Just curious. I know TC does alot of stuff for the long travel guys. Are these worth the money or no? Im thinking about putting together a kit, which Im hoping would be much cheaper than what they sell theirs for.

The solid motor mounts will keep your engine from rocking back and forth while accelerating and decelerating. Essentially they stop your engine from slamming into the firewall when under WOT (wide open throttle). They will also make your truck run a little more rough as the solid motor mounts transmit engine vibrations much better than OEM or poly motor mounts.

I think the TC engine mounts utilize a poly bushing in the mounts, so I guess they arnt "solid". Is there a market for these in the off-road world though, or just in the sand/long travel guys?

Not looking to get rich...just make a few bucks. Who else makes a complete kit like TC does? Id like to check out others designs. Are these being used in the mountains...or usually in the sand where people are WOT often?

Seems the popular setup is to run at most one poly motor mount, leave the stock rubber one on the other side, unless you are building a dedicated off-road buggy. A simple chain across the motor mount can also "do the trick":

I would definitely come up with my own design. I pride myself in not just copying whats already on the market. The original question was whether they are useful in the mountain/rocks...or if they are mainly used in the sand/long travel guys. Since I cant seem to get that answer, Im assuming they are mainly used in the sand/long travel industry. Thanks!

But a buddy of mine at work is running 4.70 t case gears and he blew up a couple motor mounts. Replaced them with solid ones. And since he drives to go wheeling he hates them because they vibrate your teeth out. He says his whole body is tingly after a long drive.

Sorry for the confusion. I wasnt asking if they would be better in different terrains. I was wondering if they were a product intended more for the sand guys, because they are WOT alot more than anyone who is in the mountains rock crawling. Im just trying to get ideas for things to make. Ive picked up a couple new ideas that Ill put together over the next few months. Thanks to everyone!

I have ONE Rockstomper poly mount in my rig that I had to pull and modify a little to help reduce the vibs. You'd be pretty high to run dual poly mounts on a DD rig. The reason why I installed mine? I got tired of busting my electric fan blades due to the motor rocking FORWARD. Now it just rocks up and down. Runnin duals or banging gears offroad, rocking back/forth or racing ricers on the street a poly mount will help, a little, transfer more torque down thru drivelines.

Like was mentioned, a chain would work or even a bolt thru the mount with help...

For dual poly mounts yes. A single poly mount is fine in a DD
