toyotafiberglass - 500K
Ron from Manitoba,
brought his truck in to our shop .. /93 4x4 3.0L . He bought it NEW , and it now has 500K on it .. It has been very well maintaind , but the rust just a little out of control . He wants it to last for the MILLION mile prize .. so .. here is how were are helping .. http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...K/SSPX0913.jpg http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...K/SSPX0914.jpg Got it right in the shop (booked appointment ) and got to work . Removed the canopy http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...K/SSPX0916.jpg and the box http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...K/SSPX0917.jpg fenders and doors .... http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...K/SSPX0920.jpg http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...K/SSPX0922.jpg . |
so this post is for some of you yotatechers , whom have asked me "how to"
so as you can see in the pics , rockers have been "worked on " and are rusted , they dont "look" bad in these pics , but there toast . I was how ever able to "salvage" enough to do the back 1/4 instead of having to make a piece . started "cutting" out the rockers with a spot weld bit and plasma cutter http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...K/SSPX0923.jpg http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...K/SSPX0925.jpg Inners are OK .. and have been "caught in time" before they get to bad .. pics dont show , but there is some rust in there as well , I will handle this with POR15 . http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...K/SSPX0933.jpg http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...K/SSPX0931.jpg some bad rust on the front as well http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...K/SSPX0932.jpg so I "hammered" out some new pieces .. (both sides) http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...K/SSPX0927.jpg http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...K/SSPX0937.jpg . |
man you always come through on some awesome builds... cant wait to see the rest
|
so with the POR 15 cured
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...K/SSPX0935.jpg http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...K/SSPX0936.jpg and with our NEW rockers in (stamped in Japan) (we will be offering these for sale shortly) http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...K/SSPX0941.jpg time to fit them (VERY happy with the fit) http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...K/SSPX0938.jpg and with everything prepped and ready .. time to start welding http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...K/SSPX0939.jpg http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...K/SSPX0940.jpg http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...K/SSPX0943.jpg http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...K/SSPX0944.jpg and with everything welded and ground a little plastic filler http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...K/SSPX0946.jpg and some seam seal and epoxy http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...K/SSPX0947.jpg http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...K/SSPX0948.jpg http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...K/SSPX0949.jpg . |

http://www.toyotafiberglass.com/truck_12.html also check ot our customer pics page .. lots of first gen beds on there http://www.toyotafiberglass.com/cust...ctures_14.html . |
Be sure to keep the original bed. I did not get the prize because I had an aftermarket bed (Reading utility box) and other significant modifications (lifted, engine wk, etc.) when I hit 1mil. My uncle took his in at 1mil all stock and body falling off the frame and got a new truck a week later!

ohh .. cool .. I didnt know that .. good info .
finished up the box install , with a new bumper on the end .. http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...K/SSPX0961.jpg and moved onto the front fiberglass fenders .. http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...K/SSPX0963.jpg just about done this one :) . |
got the front fenders finished ..
little filler on the seam , and because the owner is not going to paint the truck , I sealed them up with some epoxy primer http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...K/SSPX0964.jpg http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...K/SSPX0966.jpg and with the mudflaps and inners installed , the truck is done http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...K/SSPX0965.jpg http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...K/SSPX0968.jpg http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...K/SSPX0970.jpg . |
