1997 Toyota 4Runner daily driver build

Roughly 2 weeks ago my younger brother found a good deal on a 1997 Toyota 4Runner SR5. He at the time had a 1999 4runner SR5 4x4 V6 Black that he has had for the last two years. The black 1999 has been a good rig but has had framework done in the past (professionally done) and is getting up there in mileage ( 250k). As he heads off to college soon we all wanted him to try to get into a lower mileage vehicle. So he found this 4runner with a perfect frame, and 116k miles for $700 on the local CL

only problems is it ran terribly and the brakes didn’t work, as well as slightly rusty rocker panels. But we plugged in our code readers and did some minor diagnose and confirmed the poor running condition due to a knock sensor out, and a coil pack completely dead. So a new coil pack, jumpered knock sensor and rebuilt master cylinder got him back on the road

Nice project!

That is my favorite color for that generation 4Runner. [Sorry Hab, your 4Runner's color is a close second! :D]

Yay for working brakes and a smooth running engine!

Well, it is a very nice color though I can't tell if grey or anthracite, looks good. If anthracite the paint still looks pretty darned good for the color.

Amazing how a couple of touches can really spiff a truck up.

haha thanks Hab! I’m not sure the exact color I will have to pull the color code and see. It almost is a brown/gunmetal mix
