wierd problem with the gears
i just got my lift, shocks, and new tires done yesterday and couldnt be more pleased. i went pretty hard wheeling in it all day today; got stuck in water that came up to the doors but it was ok because my friends 04 trd off road package tacoma pulled me right out. on the way home, and after i cleaned it all off, when i would hit speeds where the gears should change, the rpm's would sort of "hover" around 2200 or so and then go back down, changing to the next gear. my 4runner is automatic, and even when i drive so that i let off the accelerator as to let the gears change, it still "hovers". any help would be greatly appreciated.

Pull the tranny dipstick and see if there is any water on it...

sounds like you either messed up a sensor for the transmission or got water in one of the gearboxes and its effecting the drivetrain

Yup I learned that lesson a while ago with another vehicle. Water in a Auto transmission destroys the transmission clutch packs very quickly after you start to feel weird things happening with the transmission it's already too late.
I doubt that's the problem. It sounds like a sensor connector got wet though. I would unplug all connectors that lead to the transmission spray them out with electrical contact cleaner if you find other areas that got wet unplug one connector at a time and clean them. Reassemble and see if it goes away. |
