Am i in for ĊĊĊĊty mileage and a shorter life to my beloved runner?

There's a guy on this forum with a SC'ed Taco running around 300 horsepower and getting 20mpg... though I can't remember his name.

rimpainter.com 11-04-2006 12:05 PM

^ That would be Dave.

Anyway, there is a lot of reading you need to do Kenny. You can go a few different routes with it:

URD fuel/timing kit
SMT 6 option
7th injector with controller

Yes, you need to upgrade the fuel pump. Yes, you need new injectors. Yes, you need to gain control of the timing. Don't listen to the guys that say you can run without fuel/timing mods. That's like playing roulette with your engine. I tried to be cheap and skip injectors at first. That was a mistake. I ended up needing them anyway and had to tear the SC'r off again to put them in. Just do it right the first time or don't do it at all.

Don't even consider a smaller pulley unless you have a complete fuel/timing kit on there. You will also need a scan tool to adjust the global fuel trim once the injectors are in.

My mpg is slightly better with the mods in my sig. Interesting huh?

You'll get people on all sides of the coin...

People that have put one on and would never go without.
People that don't want to spend the money or deal with all the hassle (91+ gas, fuel mods, etc).
And finally people that have put one on and taken it back off.

BTW.....TRDOLMAN (Dave) was the Taco with over 300 HP, plenty of threads on what he did.

Why make a thread?

Just do it. :D

I love mine. Mine does throw check engine light when I pull a trailer under load for some reason. Can't say this is supercharger related, but that is my guess. The error is lean fuel in Bank 1. I would still go with a charger. Lots more power over my other 4runner.

kennyracer77 11-04-2006 03:30 PM

well i want to do it right for sure
would anyone say DONT do this?
SC,7th injector kit,TRD header,walbro 190 fuel pump,MAF,URD pulleys(size??),scan tool
thanks ANYThing else im forgettin ?

THANKS AGAIN YALL

Do you have fuel mods?
That can't be a good thing to happen only under load like that.

SC'r and URD kit would be easiest. TRD headers, MAF, and URD pulley are not necessary.

Oh, and you will need a laptop to tune it.

kennyracer77 11-04-2006 04:39 PM

yeah its manual w/ 99k on. the thing is is that the guy who has the SC has the 7th kit and headers and wants to sell 2gether. i wanted headers anyway. Do i need additional fuel mods along w/ the 7th kit? i thought that is the fuel mod w/ the new injectors and all. thanks

Get the 7th injector tuning kit from URD and you should be good to go. It includes a lot of the items you are going to want to get anyway, such as the fuel pump, 2-step colder plugs, and tuning software. You can get the 170 degree thermostat from NAPA for $10 with gasket. I also recommend flushing the coolant and replacing with a 60/40 mix of distilled water and GM Dexcool and Redline Water Wetter (prevents hot spots and allows for a more aggressive water mixture without worries).

Once you get everything in and tuned you are going to fry that clutch pretty quick, so be ready for that too. :)

You will be amazed at the difference in power. 1st gear is just ridiculous in mine. 2nd and 3rd are insane. You simply will not believe how fast you can pass people with the SC'r properly tuned. :great:

What has to be done to the auto trans?

Valve body upgrade. If not, one will eventually wear out their 1-2 clutch pack.

And 2-3 too (for some people at least). I know, I was shocked too.

montypower 11-05-2006 06:45 AM

Just a thought.... Did you know the 7th injector is vehicle specific? I didn't think they were designed for pre-1999 (could be wrong). They are specific for auto/manual tho (from my reading). --- Just something to check b4 you buy.

kennyracer77 11-05-2006 10:48 AM

thank you for the tips. Its on!! there just comes a time in every mans life when he needs to supercharge his runner

TX-BLKRUNNER 11-05-2006 11:23 AM

if i had your money i could throw mine away, let us know how it goes, there won't be a soccer mom in town that will stand a chance!

frodin1 11-05-2006 08:03 PM
