Removal of '03 Stereo Bezel Housing
:help:
How do you remove the bezel housing around the 2003 4Runner stereo? I've removed the clock, removed the two bolts back of it, and the bolt behind the drop down storage in front of the console. Tried yanking it off, but don't want to break the bezel housing. Does anyone know if there are more fasteners to remove? Is there a secret to removing the bezel housing? Secondly, would swapping a single CD JBL stereo sound better than my non- JBL single CD stereo? Appreciate any suggestions. |
The fancy little heater controls pop off (there clips and yes there tight) then there is I'f I remember correctly 2 phillips screws to remove. You must also take the center console trims off also to get the main bezal off...
Professional opinion, you don't want the JBL setup if you plan on changing it out and or adding to it in the end. |
'03 Stereo Bezel Removal
I case anyone is trying to do this, removal of the
console is required first. Remove the shifter knob, and pop the top of the console out (no bolts). Remove the two bolts, one on the left and one on the right and tilt the bottom of the console out. Loosen the bottom panel of the driver's side dashboard, and remove the bolt on the left side of the stereo bezel. There is a bolt right above the drop down panel below the AC control panel that must be removed. Pull the clock, temp, MPG meter panel off (no bolts or screws) and unplug the panel and remove. Then remove the two bolts under the front center of the stereo. The bezel will now pull off, and all that is required is to remove the two electrical connectors, one for the rear window switch on the right and the emergency flasher on the right. To remove the stereo, remove the bolt on the right and the left. Was trying to install a Kenwood CD changer via a SoundGate interface "KenToy1", but alas, none of the electrical plugs fit. :=( Any suggestions? I did notice two unattached electrical plugs in the console. Does anyone know what they are for? A cellphone connection? Or Toyota CD changer output/power connection? Preamp out? What to hookup my Kenwood changer. Guess I could spring for the clone of the Toyota changer or the real thing. |
