Thought I'd pass along this information for anyone wanting to perform the Tundra brake conversion. I ordered all these parts this weekend; rotors and calipers arrived today, pads and brake lines are in transit.

A couple notes... I ended up getting 20% off the calipers (autoshepherd.com was having a 20% off sale, keep your eyes open!). All of the parts have free shipping; I did find the Brembo rotors cheaper elsewhere but the shipping charges made up for the price difference. Amazon.com also has Goodridge SS brake lines for about $85 shipped (ships from hrpworld.com)

New brakes are going on this weekend. If anyone wants any comparison data (stock brakes vs Tundra brakes), let me know what you'd like.

Why did you go with the calipers that take the 4.7" pads and not the 5.3" pads? Do the bigger ones not bolt up to the 4runner mounts?

How did you get around the core charge?

I'm going to be upgrading soon as well. I have heard some people wish they would gone a little farther as to buying the slotted and/or drilled rotors instead of the blanks. That will probably be the difference when I upgrade. Of course, it's just the matter of taking longer to save more $. Good timing and info though, wont be too much longer for me.

You gotta worry about wheel clearance with the 231mm pads. I have those on my 98 but I am running Pro Comp wheels. There is a big long thread about the swap.

I think I used the Durlast rotors w/ the 2 year warenty and they were 50ish buck a piece.

Gerdo & JwWaldz - I initially was planning on going with the 231mm calipers, with the idea that 'bigger is better.' There are two primary things that made me go with 199mm calipers. First, they don't fit under stock 16" rims without grinding the rims (not a big deal, but quite a bit of work). Second, and this is the biggie, is that a lot of folks claim the pads for the bigger calipers have the same surface area contacting the rotor as the 199mm calipers. The bigger pads simply have a bigger backing, allowing for better heat dissipation. If I had rims to accomodate the bigger calipers, I would have gone that route, but I like my stock rims and don't intend on replacing them.
A side note - AutoShepherd.com has the 231mm calipers for the same price as the 199mm calipers.

The core charge from AutoShepherd.com is $30 per caliper. I fully intend on mailing my 4Runner calipers back... we'll see if they say anything (I'll keep you folks updated), I don't think there will be an issue. However, even if they don't refund my core charge, $91 ($61 + $30) is still cheaper that what my local auto part stores wanted to charge me, and is still cheaper than Amazon.com for the Raybestos calipers.

Raybestos Heavy Duty rotors work just fine for me... $65/ea

You guys may want to check out the Raybestos R-300 rotors as well. More money, but IMO worth it. I plan on installing these after winter.

I saw these but haven't heard any feedback. Let us know how they work for you :bigok:

So the calipers that use the 5.3" pads are for the 231mm brake setup? Gotcha
