4Runner vs. Curb

So thought I would show you all my nightmare I have been dealing with over the past week or so. The story goes, it was snowing with snow on the ground. Tree covered in snow was covering up stop sign. I slid through the intersection and hit the curb on the other side. I was at about 10-15 mph on impact of the left front tire. Anyway took it to Gregs Japanese Auto and the damage done was a cracked power stearing rack, bent right tie rod, bent left rim, and way out of allignment. Now the rear end is howling so I took it to Randy's Ring and Pinion and they are going to take a look at it. Possilbly the bearings, not sure yet if it is from the collision. I am running everything through insurance so it has only cost me $500 so far....

Did you take that to the gregs in Lynnwood?

If so, i think we (Nix99) Supplied you with a wheel!

You should come check us out, we just got a really nice 98 Limited 4Runner in!

Ya it was at the Lynnwood location. I am looking for a hood with the air scoop? what color is it?

Damn that sucks, I've slammed into a curb with my '94 Camry going 20 and this is all that resulted.

That sounds like a crappy ordeal. Glad to here you're getting everything fixed up, though. Could this have been avoided by steering into the skid? You must have nailed that curb with your wheel sideways!

I Trust you're ok? i hope so, Vehicles can be fix, People not so easily.

My wife was in an accident in our 06 equinox, it had just snowed (sound familiar) and she was doing 40 mph, she changed lanes, person in front of her SLAMMED on their brakes she hit hers, but decided to pull to the left and hit the concrete barrier. From the drivers front light all the way back, most of it is superfical damage, but thats also expensive. Tho like you we are running it thru insurance $500 is all we pay.

PLAIN AND SIMPLE: i know what your going thru, bro!

98 did not have a scooped hood. 99 was the first year. Sorry man.

but, if you need parts, lemme know. We have the steering gear you needed too! but they must have gotten one from somewhere else?

Runner_Zuke Jan 12, 2009 08:15 PM

Trust me I steared into the skid and did everything possilbe to save the skid. I almost had it but just didnt make it as the pics show. But ya me and my girlriend are ok, but my wallet isnt. Could have been worse though!

DEATHCOUGAR, ya they took care of all the parts. not sure where they got everything. What color of trim pieces does the 98 have. I have the gold and it would nice to find the black pearl!

DeathCougar Jan 13, 2009 08:37 AM

It has chrome trim on it.

They never offered black pearl for the 98 model year :*(

Dang, your peoples wheels/cars don't hold up. I hit a curb doing 35 in my '92 Corolla. Stupid friend told me to turn left at the next light so I did. . .there was no left :bang:. Only broke the hub cap though :banger:.

Glad its all workin out!

With a hit that hard to break the rack,I would inspect that side wheel bearing(bent wheel) as well...

If your friend told you to poke yourself in the eye with a sharp stick, would you do it?

Thats too bad, i had a simular thing happen a few months ago, was going about 20 when a guy ran a stop sign and i had to get out of the way. It was raining and i slid totally sideways into the curb. Almost flipped the truck but after a second it landed rightside up. Scared the living daylights out of me. Of course the guy that ran the sign didn't stop.

Lucky for me my tires were tall enough that it just popped the bead on both the front and rear passanger side. Had i had 2 spare tires i would have been fine. As it was i changed the rear and then drove the 1 mile home with the flat (no way was i leaving my truck on that road after dark). Ruined the tire like i figured but i had an extra one so all i had to do was get that put on the rim (which tankfully made it home without any damage) and i was good to go.

Could have been a LOT worse.

Glad to hear you are ok.

Just an update... Finlay got my truck back, oh how i missed it. And got something nice for myself out of the whole ordeal.

So the carrier bearing in the rear end spun. Guess it was so loose you could pull it out with your fingers.

So I had to replace the whole carrier. The price of a new carrier is $$$ and for only $170 more I upgraded to a Truetrac. Haven't had a chance to try it out, but I know I will like it.
